Easily Most Historic Hotel in Town

I stopped in to visit the casino and took a chance to tour the rooms. I had heard from the folks at the lobby that rooms on the top floors were dedicated to movie stars who had stayed at the hotel. Even President Lyndon B. Johnson has a room dedicated to him for his having visited Ely. The reputation of the hotel as a clean bargain priced place to stay makes it definitely recommended over the newer motels to stay. The building is historic for having been the tallest building in Nevada for some twenty or so years. It was built in 1927, having been the first modern steel structure with fire-proof safety in Nevada, long before the boom in Los Vegas was even a mafioso's dream. The bottom floor is filled to capacity with slot machines, gaming tables, bar and restaurant, but there is also a great collection of western memorabilia--restored vintage motorcycles, hunting trophies, gun collections, and a locally crafted carved collections that was once showcased in Knottsberry Farm in LA. The hotel often entertains those coming to ride the historic railroad.
