car rental in Las Vegas for french people
by BICHOU69
Over the past few months I heard of quite a few middle-aged french people, who do not speak english and who feel a bit anxious about renting a car in LAS VEGAS for the first time
By any chance would anybody know or have heard of a car rental desk with bilingual (french) speaking agents?
thank you very much

French in Las Vegas car rental counter? Extremely unlikely. Staff at car rental counters be relatively unsophisticated group who have not been hired for their language skills.

Would it help them to join one of the frequent renter programs where you skip the line and head out to the parking lot? Although they'd still have some interaction with staff, it might be minimal.

Good suggestion John - but I'm not sure how well these things work cross-border. I'm a member of a couple of these programs and found that in Europe, it did not work the same way as in North America.
Worth a try though.

Just curious: are they planning on spending all of their time within the city or are renting the car for day trips to other locations?

thank you all for your replies
that's what I was afraid of...
as a matter of fact my first thought was that of a loyalty card which I found quite useful while working in the United States . In addition to line shortening it also provides a kind of insurance against counter agent overzealousness as well as error, hardsells, upsells etc... Which is precisely what these french tourists are more or less afraid of...a predicament they would not know how to get out of. So they fear..
But I don't think it would work with their French card, which means they would have to buy an Americain Hertz, Avis or anything else. In that case it's hardly worth for occasional trips. I guess..
Happily , by booking on line it is now possible to get a printed contract in one's own language which is what they will have to resort to in the end
Generally from what I heard, French tourists and other foreigners for that matter, will rent a car in LV mostly to be able to go away and visit places in Arizona (Grand Canyon..Sedona.) or elsewhere. Not so much to drive around town except for a few who dream of driving down the Strip with a vintage car, a Corvette, a Mustang convertible etc...
Thank you again

You're spot on there - you don't need a car if just staying in the city but to explore beyond requires some wheels. There are organized tours out of Vegas to some of those places mentioned but they are definitely not everybody's cuppa tea.
Travel Tips for Las Vegas
Convention Center Shortcut
by Rixie
This is a tip about a pedestrian overpass that's a shortcut from the Courtyard Marriott to the Convention Center.
*On the Courtyard Marriott side of Paradise Road, walk past the Courtyard Residence Inn.
*Cross Convention Center Drive and turn left.
*About 50 yards away, on the right, there is an escalator leading to an overhead walkway that goes OVER Paradise Road, directly into the second floor of the Convention Center.
This will save you a lot of standing on street corners waiting for the light to change, while broiling in the hot sun. Also, if you are setting up for or attending sessions on the second floor of the Convention Center, it’s a much faster way of getting there.
Vegas Hotels Aren't ALWAYS Cheap
by Karnubawax
You've no doubt heard about all the sweet deals you can get in Vegas on hotel rooms. What you may not know is that hotel prices fluctuate between very cheap and very expensive depending on a lot of factors.
You are MUCH more likely to get a cheap deal if you go mid-week. Package deals offered by airlines and places like expedia are often pretty good. I've heard priceline is good for the higher end strip hotels, though I've never used it.
There are certain times of the year - during big events in Vegas - when hotel rooms are at a premium. These include NASCAR weekend, Super Bowl weekend, anytime there's a title fight, etc. During these times you will NOT find $29 rooms! Even the sleazier downtown joints will be at least $75. Of the strip hotels, Stratosphere is where you'll find a reasonable room when everyone else is either booked or charging an arm and a leg.

Please go into the Belaggio!! You won't be sorry! The shops are great and the atmosphere is esentially 'kid-free' (if that is appealing to you. It makes for a more relaxing time! Driving to Mt. Charleston and down to the Hoover Dam.
Ethel would you look at this!!

While your shopping at the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, be sure to stop to enjoy the entertainment. The fountians come alive about once an hour for a quick song and dance so to speak. They certainly dont make the robots like they used to....you'd almost believe they were real people.
Also watch the sky (ceiling). Depending on how long you're there it will go from daytime to twilight.....there was even a full moon over Bertoli's restaurant the afternoon we were there.
