Primm, Nv ~ Better known as...

Primm, Nv ~ Better known as State Line. Only about 45 minutes west of Vegas. Great stop on the way to Vegas from California to stretch your legs, go on the roller coaster at Buffalo Bill's or get some preemptive gambling in. On the drive back to Cali, procrastinate the drive by stopping to stretch you legs, go on the roller coaster or get some last chance gambling in!
Rest Stops/Areas
by Yaqui
Rest Areas I-15
I think rests areas are so essential. They provide an area to stretch and relax from traveling the road. Your body needs this. I think many forget how important they are and I know my family depends on them. They have plenty of restrooms, drinking fountains, shaded area, picnic tables and many of some pretty interesting information posted. Some may have pay phones.
I-15 has several going to and from Vegas. They are both centrally located from Barstow to Baker and from Baker to Nevada Stateline. Baker is 64 miles east of Barstow and about 51 miles west of Primm, Nevada Stateline.
Clyde V. Kane Rest Area is about 30 Miles East of Barstow and 34 miles west of Baker. Yet, beware it has not been remodeled and is in need of much repair. Their is is two rooms for the ladies, but some of the sinks and tolets do not work. So there maybe lines.
So the other rest area is called Valley Wells Rest Area and it is 26 miles west of Nevada state line and 25 miles east of Baker.
Valley Wells Rest area is Opened and Remodeled!
I had to giggle at some folks trying to find a tree or bush big enough for them since they didn’t stop at the available rest stop. Just keep in mind that there is Barstow, Baker, Valley Wells, and Primm Nevada, and after that is Gene Nevada, which I would recommend stopping at while heading east or west if you didn’t stop at any of the rest areas along the way.
Adrenaline Rush Worth Leaving Town For!

About 30 minutes south of Vegas, you'll find Buffalo Bill's casino, and therein, the Desperado Roller Coaster.
When it first opened, the Desperado held the Guiness Book of World Records title as the world's tallest, fastest, and steepest roller coaster. It's since been outdone in all categories, but it's still in the top 10 of steepest! It was so much fun, we rode it twice.
Also, since you're in Primm, NV and not on the strip, you don't have to wait in line. You get a discount on the NYNY coaster if you keep your ticket stub, but honestly this ride was way more fun.
The buffet at Buffalo Bill's is not bad either. But definitely wait until AFTER you ride the coaster :)
Take I-15 south out of Vegas to Primm. You can't miss it!
Don't miss the Desperado...

Don't miss the Desperado roller coaster at Buffalo Bill’s. This is the fastest, scarriest, roughest and exciting roller coaster that I have ever been on. I love roller coasters and this is as good as it gets. It begins with a 225-foot drop down a 55-degree descent followed by a 155 foot second hill. This high speed ride keeps you gasping for breath as it careens at speeds up to 80 miles per hour for almost 2 1/2 minutes. If you are in the area it is well worth your time to stop and enjoy this thrilling experience.
Location: Located in Primm, Nevada, roughly 30 minutes from Las Vegas. It is a great place to stop for a break or overnight if you are driving from Las Vegas to Los Angeles.
More Info: Hours of operation: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday - Thursday, 11 a.m. to midnight Friday, and 10 a.m. to midnight Saturday.
Cost: $6 (prices increases to $7 June 30-July 4 and Sept. 1-4. Must be 48 inches tall to ride.

Great for Groups

Nice rooms, fine food in Buffet, friendly and courteous staff make this a pleasant adventure for group travel. Minor maintenance could be improved but well worth the economical price. Nice casino and free trams to others close by.
Had a great time.

Stayed at Buffalo Bill's over the Veterans day weekend. Room was a great value.
We have learned to avoid the very standard Buffet and had 2 good meals at the coffee shop. Finally won some money, and earned enough players card points to get a room free for 3 nights next time. The kids had a great time on the rides.
They do need to put in some 25c 9/6 jack's or better video poker machines. That would keep us in primm and not needing to ever go elsewhere.
Buffalo Bill's rocks

I stayed at Buffalo Bill's back in 1995 on 2 separate occasions while travelling The States with a mate.
Our stay there, to say the least was fantastic.
We stayed in a gorgeous room with 2 queen sized beds from Monday through Thursday for a mere $27 ($13.50 each) per night.
The staff in the bar and gaming areas were friendly and great fun.
We enjoyed the gaming, the shopping, the sights, and must've spent a small fortune on the roller coaster.
As we enjoyed it so much the first time, we just had to come back again before heading home to Australia.
Thanks to the staff there for helping make our stay so much fun.
FAMILY FUN

I checked in on 12/26/04. Alma gave me a very quiet room. Daniel on the Craps table was extremely patient with a drunk player. The rates were fantastic ($20.00) a night. And 4 free tickets to the roller coaster. A band called Rhythm Nation played in the lounge and they were fantastic. I am not a Vegas fan, I think it is sleazy but Bullalo Bills and their sister hotels went out of the way to create a family friendly environment. Good job.

Roller coasters at the Stratesphere?
by andi1975
Does anyone know if we can still go on the rollercoasters at the Stratesphere, even if we are not staying there?
Also, I hear Las Vegas has lots of thrill rides - where will we find the others as we are big roller coaster buffs and are they any good?!!

Circus circus coaster is lame. It's for kids. I consider that a kiddie ride. Like devito said, stateline has a coaster. It's about 55 miles south of the Strip. Take I-5 South or go south on Las Vegas blvd. I-5 is faster, unless it's sunday, which will be jammed because Californians are trying to go back to Cali.

Echoing other replies you can go on the roller coaster on the Stratosphere without staying there. You must go on the 'Big Shot' at the VERY top of the tower, that is the highest point of all. I can also recommend the roller coaster at New York New York.

I agree CircusCircus is lame, the indoor park is for kids

There are 3 rides at the top of the Stratosphere - the roller coaster, the X-Scream, and the Big Shot. The Big Shot shoots you up and lets you fall back down, the coaster is self explanatory, and the x-scream is the one that hangs over the edge. I won't do any of them.

Ok You like coasters try ny ny there is one there the stratosphere has 3 you have to try. Stay away from circus circus. also the aladdin has the nascar one. some casinos south of the stratosphere Have them. The tallest not the highest is the desparado at state line at Buffalo Bills casino. About 30 minutes south of Vegas. You should have fun. But if you have a lot of time look up www>sixflags.com check out magicmountain. That is Coaster heaven. It is about 4 hours south east of vegasin California. But if your a diehard coaster rider Magic mountain is worth the trip. Just a suggestion.
Have a fun and safe trip Pete H.
