Excalibur, more for the kids

Out of the 3 hotels I stayed in Las Vegas, this was the one that we didnt like. Not that it is a bad hotel, just seemed to be a bit dated and maybe more for families with small children, rooms were clean and service was good, we had breakfast buffet for approx $14 per person, quite good, but not as good as the buffet in NY NY. Pool was clean although very very crowded and almost impossible to get a sunbed, but with temps reaching 110, I wasnt that bothered.

Unique Quality: More for the Children.

Married into this place

Not only do we try to stay here almost every trip out, but we were married here in 1993. Happy to see that there have been renovations since that time, and the place is just as magical. If you like knights and maidens, this place is for you

Unique Quality: As all casinos on the strip, it is unique in its decor and room decor, really big on the castle and knights, dragons and maidens in distress. If you go for that though -- my husband really loves it-- that stay at the Excalibur!

Should be the next hotel overhauled or torn down!

This hotel is showing it's age, and should be put on the list to either be torn down or overhauled!

While the staff is very friendly, many common services are lacking. The bell hop who delivered our bags, did just that and nothing more! When I asked about ice, he told me to walk down the hall.

Housekeeping, is pretty weak too. Carpet was 'kind of' vacuumed, and the bathroom floor was 'kind of' swept.

We noticed an error with our check out date after we had checked in, so the next morning I went to the front desk to correct the error, IT WAS CLOSED! I've never heard of a hotel closing its check-in desk for the morning hours.

My mother had a medical emergency, when I called the desk for the 'house doctor'.. they don't have one. However they did call for an ambulance, good thing since all they could offer was a security officer. (Who was friendly but, didn't appear to even have basic medical training.)

Items that I thought a hotel would have... a bath tub, coffee pot, and mini bar in the room. Also the water glasses are the cheapest thin plastic glasses I've ever seen. Brochures of things to do, while in the area. To say the least I've stayed at Motel 6s that offered more than this place!

Lighting in the hallways and rooms is very poor. It gives you the feeling of being in a dungeon, which is o.k. if you have good vision. Would NOT recommend this hotel for anyone who is low vision.

Building maintenance personal appear to be missing! Elevator button on floor was broken all week, and other noticeable items needed repairing.

They also have a mandatory charge of a dollar a day for the phone (if you us it or not) and internet access is $11.00 for 24 hours.

Bottom line, if you don't mind $3.00 a cup for coffee, and don't want a tub to soak in, don't mind a bit of dirt, can handle the other little quarks it isn't too bad for the mid week rate of $54. a night. However is not worth the $100+ they charge for the week-ends!

Unique Quality: Good location, is on the 'Strip Trolly' route. The staff was frendly, but not always helpful.

Black (K)nights, family entertainment

A lovely building and my wife always wanted to sleep in her castle... Large rooms and small prices, this hotel is designed for families to stay.

Las Vegas' Worst Hotel

We don't recommend this hotel to anyone. We had several problems with this hotel and when presented to management nothing was done about it except for the incident with the corned beef hash. Management told us to file a complaint with security but we weren't offered anything. Here were the problems:

1) Reserved a non-smoking room. When checking in we were told all that was available was smoking and just because we reserve it doesn't mean we get it. We have a daughter that has asthma and being in a smoking room the first night triggered her asthma and made it hard for her to breathe.

2) Hotel had water slides that go into the pool. Slides didn't work at any time while we were there. We specifically booked this hotel because of the water slides.

3) One of the days when we went to the pool there was no lifeguard and one of the two pools were closed. The pool that was open didn't have any room to put a chair to sun bathe.

4) When we went to the buffet the last day we were there we all got sick from the corned beef hash. It wasn't food poisoning but there was something in it that gave it a smokey flavor and made us feel nauseaus.

Best place to stay on the strip

This place is the only place I stay when coming to Las Vegas.

Their rates are affordable and usually include free dining coupons and discount tickets.
The location of the Excalibur is centric to most of the major hotels on the strip and a short walk to the monorail which will take you to the other end of the strip in a short time.

Navigating the hotel and trying to remember how to get to your tower can be confusing, but once you master the landmarks you will have no problem.

The rooms are spacious and always clean and have pleasant decorating.

The views can be nice or plainly awful, you will most likely want to stay in tower 2.

The pool is shallow and is fun for kids, but not so much for adults.

The buffet is not that great, but they usually have coupons for buy one get one free so its not a bad buy for breakfast.

This resort has a arcade which is great for kids and is located on the lower level near the main entrance.

Your best bet for late night dining is the Sherwood forest cafe, with very basic food.

A walk to the second floor will yield a few shops and a walkway to the Luxor, and might I say it is kind of a long walk, but there are usally working flat escalators.

Overall, I love the Excalibur. It is family friendly, fun, cheap and a great location to the strip and airport.

Guinevere was not there

Last time that I was in this city I ve stayed at this hotel It was a late reservation
and I didnt had the chances to change my hotel. As you can imagine this is an hotel build on large gamble room ( casino) .Many years ago was attractive but after so much competition with the new entries this hotel is a little old fashioned and cannot compete with the rest of the hotels in every sense...

For the young at heart

Whether youre 5 or 50 this hotel has all the makings for a funfilled stay. A great family hotel and very popular with children, so if you like a little peace and quiet now and then DONT go here. Themed as the castle of King Arthur the rooms are big and comfy and the hotel has lots to occupy the little ones even if they are not allowed into the casino. A giant dragon makes a nightly appearance from the lake at the entrance of the hotel and strolling minstrels perform juggling and musical acts all around the ground floor. You can even watch a jousting tournament acted by some pretty handsome knights in armour. Access by monorail to its neighbours the Luxor and Mandalay Bay hotels or by footbridge to New York,New York.

Unique Quality: I just love the design of this hotel. Its enough to soften even the hardest of cynics.

castle casino

The bed was HUGE. Well, the air-coinditioning is good - good enough to keep us cold, despite the heat outside. People come in and out of the hotel, because it is also a casino. Also, they have an arcade, at the basement - i think, for the kids. I guess, it can accomodate everyone

Unique Quality: It could probably the only hotel in Vegas that looks like a castle. :) & has a dragon inside.

Fun place to stay

Excellent hotel, great facilities, anything you as a traveller needs available on site.
Shop which sells basics, food, medical items etc, many restaurants & fast food available.
Service throughout was friendly & efficient at all times.

Unique Quality: Pool open over winter period, heated with lifeguard on duty, plus a hot large Jacuzzi (bubbling tub). Many hotels in Vegas close their pools in winter which is a shame as there are lovely warm bright days at this time.

Excalibur Hotel

by Melfi

Hi there,

Some relatives are getting married in LV and they've asked me to do the hotel bookings. I am hoping that someone will be able to help with a couple of questions I have.

1. Which is the best tower to stay in at the Excalibur? I've heard that some of the rooms are old and shabby. Would they give us better rooms if I asked?

2. I'm booking for 5 couples - are we likely to get a better rate for making a group booking?

Any help would be really appreciated. And please don't say 'Don't stay at the Excalibur'! It's the bride's choice!

Cheers

Do go to the Excalibur...:-)

I don't know about the dirrerent rooms but we stayed in the tower opposite to the New York, New York Hotel... and rooms were okay, more then okay...

I can't remember prices, but certainly try to get prices down with the 5 rooms. First ask the price for one rooms then mention it is for 5 rooms... or get better executive rooms for the same price as a standard room...

Get going and have fun...!!

We stayed at the Excalibur in May 2001 - in room 4155, don't know which tower that was. The room seemed fine, if I recall correctly. Not shabby. Definitely mention that it's for a wedding party and it's a large group.

Hi, first congratulations on the nuptuials!!
The east tower fronts the strip and faces the tropicana hotel. the north tower fronts on to tropicana blvd and faces new york new york hotel. The west tower would face the mountians and west las vegas and the south tower faces the luxor and mandalay bay hotels. You want to ask for outside rooms so you have a view, the inside rooms face the courtyard and pool area. Most hotels in LV dont start offering any kind of group discount until you're booking 10 or more rooms.
You can also get price ranges and pics of some of the rooms on lasvegas.com.
Drop me a line if I can help with any other questions.
Good Luck!

I had been doing research for Las vegas accomodation for ourselves and for this hotel the best price was the one at the hotel web page (better that other searchers are vegas.com or travelworm).

We founded that the Emerald tower is the cheaper option, and if you go some the reviews at trip adviser they are some good comments and one bad for this tower.

But as others had suggest if you email directly the hotel and try to do a group reservation, you may get discount prices or maybe some upgrades.

Sorry not been there but is one of my options, so I had done a few research LOL
