Temeratures in Vegas
Do not go to Las Vegas in the July, if you have a choice. The temperatures can be 117+ degrees and the crowds are just as bad. Glitzy. Its like Disney World for adults, with enough stuff to take the kids, too.

We'll be in Las Vegas in October & like to visit Grand Cayon South Rim at least one or two nights. My questions are:-
What is the best route to get to South Rim?
How long would take to get there?
Where should we stay at?
Thank you in advance.
The National Park website will give you directions from Vegas:
http://www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/directions_s_rim.htm
Distance is about 278 miles - 4 and 1/2 to 5 hours.
You may have some issues booking accommodations as they fill up very far in advance but we like the cabin rooms (rim rooms) at Bright Angel Lodge. If they are full, book anything else the park may have open. El Tovar, to be honest, is would be my last choice as it's very expensive.
The website above also has a link to accommodations available at the park.
Took us about 4 hours, much longer in winter when the road can be blocked with snow. Head for Hoover Dam, then Kingman, Flagstaff then Grand Canyon. It is really easy.
You could call at Hoover Dam/Lake Mead for a few hours tour stop.
Flagstaff and Williams are the 2 nearest towns where tourists often stay. Flagstaff is pretty cool, with a few bars and shops etc. Williams is a dive. Try to stay away from the station in Flagstaff or you might be kept awake by the all night trains that cause nearby hotels to shake.
Hotels here are plenty and pretty cheap.
You can stay at the rim but it is pricey and books up very quickly in the summer
Thank you very much.

The Strip - main street in Las Vegas officially called Las vegas Boulevard is the best way to walk from South to North Downtown. It´s long way, but I enjoyed it first time, just walking from MGM Grand to Stratosphere Tower. Next time, if You can´t walk so much, take a bus. It´s only $2. taxi is cheap, too, it´s about the same price to take a taxi if You are 3 or more. Fondest memory is the world´s greatest water.theatre The "O" at Bellagio
There are so many restaurants, It. ones are mostly where we go I can't remember right now the names. I'll check back at another time. We loved to go to see the big names shows. Like Sinatra, & those kind of shows.
The gambling there is much better than in Atlantic City, NJ
When I was in high school. (Freshman) Our dance team went to Las Vegas, and spent the night in the Excalibur hotel. We danced at the college (UNLV) football game, at half-time ,during the Christmas season. The whole trip was wild, and thinking back on it makes me laugh. I was so young. :):):)
Go see the 'Blue Man Show' One of the funniest shows I've seen, follow the hapless fools as the Aliens (or whatever they are) experience life on this planet. Musical accompaniment is superb. Audience participation and very very entertaining.
