Great place to stay in Vegas

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on October 16, 2003

The Flamingo turned out to be a great place to stay. I got a great rate through one of their specials and was pleasantly surprised to see that the room was very nice. The hotel itself is right in the middle of the best part of the strip. The place is bustling 24 hours a day, so this won't be the place for you if you like quiet and subdued. Check in was easy and quick, and so was check out. The casino itself was a good size, and their Connection card can be used at a bunch of other casinos. Pool area was really nice.

On the downside, the safe in the room was very expensive, and so was making calls from the room. I got around this by using my cell phone only. The Italian restaurant in the hotel is not worth the money at all. The buffet was very good though.

Unique Quality: Great location, great pool, nice casino

Directions: Across from Caesars Palace

Our room was very nice. This hotel is in the "heart of the strip" directly across fro Ceasar's and on the other corner is Bellagio. We felt this this was an excellent value. the hotel is very nice with a beautiful courtyard . The breakfast buffett was wonderful. We were seated right near a window which looked out on the gardens. This hotel was great

Flamingo Hotel & Casino

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on December 7, 2002

I know it's not as glamorous as some of its neighbors, but the Flamingo Hotel (no longer a Hilton) is still one of my favorites. Maybe it's out of sentimental reasons since it was the first one I stayed at in Vegas, but I still think it's a good one.

Unique Quality: You can't beat the location- right across from Caesar's and in between Bally's and Harrah's. Unlike some of the larger hotels, when you walk out the door you're right on the strip. The casino is easy to maneuver. I tend to get turned around in casinos, but have never had problems in this one. It's got probably the best swimming pool on the strip (and you can even swim there if you're not staying there, as long as you don't make a big deal out of it). Now, they have the "Go" pool which features topless sunbathing and a DJ. It's free for the ladies, $10 for the dudes. (But no kids so that's cool if you don't want a bunch of rowdy younguns running around :) The coffee shop, Lindy's, is decent no longer there, although there is still a 24 hour cafe. Expensive, but if you're hungry, it will do. The rooms are average size and quality. The "Go" rooms are a little better and have flat screen TVs.

Directions: On the magical "four corners" of the strip-right across the street from Caesar's Palace.

i like the Flamingo best, but probably because i've made friends with the Macaw, Lei, who lives in the lobby!
i like Excalibur least...their rooms may be cheap but you get what you pay for.

Unique Quality: The Flamingo has a beautiful garden walking area.

The Flamingo Hotel

by written on August 26, 2002

We got a great price. With the AAA discount, it was something like $60/room/night.

Unique Quality: This is the place that started it all - the original Bugsy Siegal joint. There's little pretense here -- it's all unabashedly about gambling, but the rooms are attractive and comfortable (ask for one with a view of the garden) and there's a marvelous, funky, old-time, topless vaudeville act. The garden is lush and tropical and the exotic birds it houses are interesting including, of course, the flock of 5 - 10 flamingos.

Directions: 3555 Las Vegas Blvd South

well-located, mid-strip, across from Caesar's Palace and the Mirage.

We stayed at the Flamingo Hotel and it's right on the strip opposite Caesar's Palace.

A nice place to stay and the room we got faced the swimming pools.

When we first checked in they gave us an unmade room, and a non-smoking one at that! I was HORRIFIED when i stepped in, for the room was an utter mess!

I can't believe how anyone could have left the room in that state of wreck -- it looked like a very, very wild party had taken place.

Anyway, the reservations officer was very nice, she had given us a dinner voucher of $30 cos' our room was unmade at check-in. And when i saw the state of the room and called up for a change, they didn't have any rooms available.

However, they promised me a non-smoking room (as I had requested earlier) and one with a view of the pools.

The next day, we got our room switch at 3.30pm, and boy was I glad to get out of the first room. I had difficulty sleeping due to the smell of smoke.

But we were very happy with the 2nd room -- it was beautiful and really clean too.
Expedia gave the $49/night rate and Flamingo's own website was selling the room at a much higher rate!

So... it's really worth it!

Unique Quality: It has very kitschy carpeting in the corridors -- bright blue and pink with flowers. But thankfully, this does not extend into the bedrooms!!!

The bedroom we had was very tastefully furnished :)

And it has its own wedding chapel -- quite beautiful, and its own flamingos! And of course, a few swimming pools with slides! :p

Flamingo Hilton

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on August 25, 2002

Unique Quality: When I stayed here several years ag this property was owned by Hilton. With the expansion of Hilton's Vacation Club, however, I think the original part of this hotel is now owned by Harrah's.

It's one of the older hotels, but they have decent rooms and a good location. These penguins are in the center, outdoor section of the hotel.

We stayed at the Flamingo, just across the 'Strip' from Ceasars Palace. This is a big place that seemed to be pretty full while we were there in early May.
starting at $79 per night, $49 rooms also available. Don't let the prices fool you though. We had a beautiful room overlooking the 'bird sancturary' and pool area.

Unique Quality: They have a small 'bird sancturary' on premises. There's penguins and ducks, something that acts like a chicken but is very colorful, something else that looks almost like a pheasant, and of course FLAMINGOS. There are also albino catfish and koi in the pools around this area.

I usually stay at the Flamingo Hilton or the Stratosphere. The latter's rooms are better but it is too far away from the action in the centre of the strip. The photo on the left was taken from my hotel room and shows Bellagio, the world's most expensive hotel to be built. The fountain show on the lake is wonderful to say the least.

In 2000, we stayed in the Flamingo Hilton hotel. We booked the hotel on-line -- rate was $39 US a night! Not bad at all!
Prices range from $50 to $120. But we lucked out and booked the hotel online (through the hotel's website) at $39 a night!

Directions: Central part of the Strip! Right across Caesar's Palace hotel. Best location, IMHO

by written on August 24, 2002

Recent reports from my family say the Flamingo is getting a bit worn. Also it does have one of the smaller casinos on the strip.

Unique Quality: stay in tradition -- the first lodging property on the strip (don't worry the old motel was torn down many years ago and the current Flamingo is a true resort)

penguins
nice buffet
great bars
FABULOUS pool
great location
VERY nice rooms - ask for a HIGH room

Directions: At the Heart of Center Strip

The Flamingo Hilton is on the famous Las Vegas strip across from Ceaser's. The Flamingo Hilton's greatest feature is a fantastic pool. Actually, there are multiple pools, some with slides and water falls and some for relaxing. The beautiful pool area also has hot tubs to relax in. My kids loved staying here because of the pool.
