I booked a room for myself from 9/25 thru 9/29. I work for homeland security and was informed by my management that all annual leave was cancelled for the month of September due to 9/11 10th anniversary, heightened security, and staffing due to training. I called my credit card company 3 weeks prior to check only to find out that they already charged my credit card. I wanted to find out what and the proper procedure for cancelling my reservation was. My credit card company called the hotel. During a three way conversation with my credit card company, the hotel reservations manager and myself we were informed that no monies will be refunded $(264.00) They do not have a cancellation fee. (which I offered to pay) They simply keep all your money. They do not even have a 24 hour cancellation policy which you don't know until you book your reservation and give them your credit card. Then and only then are you given the details of the cancellation policy. By then it is too late. They already have your credit card. And furthermore, since when does a hotel charge your credit card company before you even check in. I traveled a lot and I have never stayed in a hotel that did not have a 24 hour cancellation policy and fee and who only charged your credit card at check out. I am still fighting to get my money back and i will not give up until I do. Shame on me for my commitment to help protect my country

    Still a solid Downtown Value!

    by

I've never stayed here before, but was very pleased with this property. A friend of mine stays here almost every time she comes to LV because they usually offer a special rate through their own website.
The property is fairly well-maintained, clean and inviting.
I would recommend this property to someone who wouldn't mind not staying on The Strip, and could do with out a pool on the property (guests here can use Binion's pool, however.)
The Four Queens is across from an express bus stop that only makes about 5-6 stops along the Strip, so it doesn't take long to get down there from downtown.
Our room rate, the week before Christmas, was $25 a night. In the summer my friend has stayed here for $29 a night. Check their website for rates when you want to go.

Unique Quality: The room is not huge, but has ample space for everything so one does not feel claustrophobic. There is a table with two chairs and a bench. Furniture is solid wood, not pressboard or particle board with veneers. Very sturdy. The King bed was one of the most comfortable I've slept on in a hotel. Pillow-top mattress with ample coverings and plump pillows, quite a difference from the budget hotels I've stayed at in Panama!
This is an older hotel and while it has been remodeled in the not too-distant past, it does show it's age some. Our room's fan ran constantly with a rather loud rattle, but that did not bother my being able to sleep. It was too-warm most of the time, and turning the thermostat down did not help much. The door slammed shut if one did not hang onto it and one could not even crack open a window to let some air in. But overall, the room was quite adequate and comfortable.
The TV was LCD and the hotel offered a good variety of programs, both inclusive with the room and PPV, but who goes to Vegas to watch TV?
The casino itself is OK. They have many slots and table games to choose from. They have a generous slot club. The in-house restaurants offer a nice variety of food and are not ridiculously expensive. I have those reviewed under restaurants for Las Vegas.
One nice thing, is that there is a Walgreen's only a block away that has more reasonable prices than the other convenience stores in the area, such as ABC. Also good in case you forget or loose your prescription meds, you won't need to search far for a place to get replacements!
If you want to stay in a budget hotel in LV and be comfortable and have the convenience of many options of other casinos and entertainment nearby, I would recommend you try the Four Queens.

Directions: Downtown on the "Fremont Experience". Take LV Blvd N to Casino Center to Fremont. The SDX (Strip - Downtown Express) bus goes past it. See my "Transportation" reviews on Las Vegas for more bus info.

    Seedy and cheap 2

Another of the Fremont cheap but dirty hotels. I heard this place was having a makeover and it did need it. The room smelt a bit, and was very noisy. Still, cheap and place to put your head, can't fault it.

  • FIT FOR A QUEEN, INDEED!

    by

Just returned from a 3 night stay at the 4 Queens. Usually stay at the Golden Nugget, but was getting pretty shabby at last visit in Jan 2007 and they wanted a high rate for this weekend. Heard that the 4 Queens just renovated all their rooms, so we gave it a shot. What a delight! We booked a Jacuzzi Suite at avg. $200/night. It consists of 2 med/small rooms. A king bed, 2 nightstands, table for 2 and TV armoire with 32" plasma tv & refrigerator. Sitting room with a sofa, chair, 2 ottomans, 2 end tables, coffee service and a spacious, mirrored jacuzzi for 2. Ample closet space, Small bathroom, however. A few oldish items remained - bath mirror and counter, closet and some paint slops, etc... NEW--carpet, furniture, drapes, wall paper, bed/bedding, sink, tub/shower-tiled and bath floor. VERY nice!! Downside is NO safe or microwave for leftovers. No pool, either.

Unique Quality: Friendly & accomodating staff at EVERY level!! Magnolia's has great breakfast with fab hash browns for $5/with players card. Decent food w/no complaints. Chicago Brewing Co and Hugo's Cellar are nice spots, also. Casino is nice/fairly elegant. Did well at the slots and blackjack tables. They comped us all meals and the room at the end of our stay and we are low/mid road gamblers. I am fairly picky about my room and would not hesitate to stay here again, and probably will in August!! The convenience to walk to several other casino's is a real fun factor, as is the Fremont St Experience overhead and the live music/entertainment. Had no elevator problems, as others have reported. Great shower pressure!! Fourteenth floor room in the North Tower with not much of a spectacular view, but Binion's time and temp and some neon around town. The renovated rooms are actually gorgeous!!!

Directions: On Fremont Street between the Golden Nugget and Fitzgerald's.

  • Good Value and Nice accomodations

Staying at a older hotel was a bit nerve racking at first. However, the price was great, the room was nice, big, and clean. I am a football coach and I have stayed in TONS of hotels in my life, the Four Queens was one of the best. Really enjoyed it.

Unique Quality: Centrally located, easy to manuever downtown, and close enough to get to a bus to get to the strip.

    Simple and Affordable

    by

The Four Queens is where I usually stay nowdays. The casino is okay, the bars and restaurants are nice, the location is great, and the price is right. Nothing fancy or extra special, just a good downtown joint.

Unique Quality: One of my favorite things about the Four Queens is they have a bar that is at the front entrance on Freemont St. You can sit at the bar, play video poker, and watch people on the street, and feel like your outdoors.

They don't have a pool, but they do have fairly loose slots.

If you stay there, make sure you don't get a room facing Freemont St. The noise from the sound system will keep you awake all night.

The 4 Queens is one of the 4 neon adorned hotels located at the main intersection of downtown Vegas. I didn't stay here, but its rated a 4 star hotel and the prices are reasonable. The hotel advertises "the biggest blackjack table in the world"; whether its true or not, I don't know. But it was a packed house on a Thursday night. And Hugo's Cellar (see restaurant tips) was a fantastic meal.

Unique Quality: "The world's largest blackjack table", "the world's largest slot machine" and the "jackpot capital of the world". This is all part of the hotel's self-promotion. Another plus is the location: you can walk right outside and see the Fremont Street experience.

    $30

Unique Quality: This place is off of the strip, and a little aged for most Vegas casinos, but the rooms are very nice and very cheap. They do have an in house casino, but the strip is only 3 blocks away.

We Love The Four Queens!

Large rooms, friendly security guards, easy on the pocketbook dining, gourmet dining, loose slots, great drinks, close to inexpensive Fremont Street shopping-(save money)...and a beer and pizza-type bar where the beer is mighty Fine-and the food tasty and fresh. The large bathrooms are a big Plus for the handicapped.Only 1 snag-Where are the Ice machines-they have them-but Where? From downtown Fremont, transportation is everywhere to All points (where the Pricier Places are) .We're going back!

We like the Four Queens, but its not the Ritz.

by A TripAdvisor Member

Not the ritz, but a good value. Our rooms were complimentary but even at normal price they are very reasonable. We have stayed at the Four Queens 3 times now, and like the location downtown. The casino has some good action; roulette and good nickle slots. The $7.99 prime rib in Magnolias is very good, and the food is served hot. During our last stay, the a/c wasn't working in our room, but I am sure we could have moved to another room, but chose not to. At the end of the stay, I wish we had, as it was warm at night. The rooms are clean with small bathroom but super water pressure made great showers. During our stay, only two elevators out of four were working properly, so I rode up, just to get a space in the elevator going down. This is unusual as all four were working for our other stays. Valet parking is free for hotel guests. You can watch Keno in the room for a change of pace; the live Keno is downstairs. Acrsoss the street is the Golden Nugget which has loose dollar slots. 1 block down to the Lady Luck, which can also be lucky. Where ever you play, be sure to get a players card to get comps.
I'll give Four Queens 2 1/2 stars, but after all, in Vegas, how much time do you want spend in the room?

Bank ATM’s near Harrah’s and the Four Queens

by St_Vincent

Could anyone help me out with the location of Bank ATM’s near these two hotels. I’m heading to Vegas from the UK shortly and have decided not to take travellers cheques but to take some cash and use my bank debit card (from Nationwide as it seems the best deal).

I have used the ATM’s in the casinos before and know that they often charge a big fee so I am looking for Bank ATM’s near Harrah’s on the Strip or the Four Queens on Fremont St. I recall using one Downtown a couple of years ago, I think it was a Bank of America round the back of Fitzgeralds.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Cheers
Clive

Thanks for the links. It seems that most ATM's close to the Strip are in casinos or stores rather than bank branches so I'll have to be careful about charges.

If your by Harrah's, try the Fashion Show Mall. It's a short distance away, across from the Wynn. Not positive if the ATM's are bank ATM's, but even if they are not, I don't think they'll charge what the casinos do.

Hi there, I've just returned from a holiday in las vegas and I think it would be a good idea to take as much (and a tad more) cash than you think you might need. I made the mistake of using my debit card a few times to withdraw cash from casino and bank of america atm's. Not only are the charges a bit on the extortionate side, but you are also cheated on the exchange rate. The post office offer a pre-pay credit card you can credit with US dollars (for free at the moment), I would consider this. If only I'd known before!!

Thanks for the advice, it's good to hear from someone who has been so recently, hope you had a good time.

I've been caught before with the ATM charges so did some research and found that the Nationwide debit card is one of the better deals if you are using it outside the UK. There are no charges from their end and you get the proper exchange rate rather than one made up by the cheating banks.
