Really good !

The Golden Nugget is a true recommendation. After Feb, 1999 I had my 2nd stay there in April, 2004 and was fully satisfied.
Clean, big rooms. Excellent Buffet.
The relatively separation between the Hotel and the Casino made it easy with kids – as we figured out (the local law of no kids in the Casino was a little bit strange for us as Europeans, a big surprise even like "no kids at the bar").
All over all an excellent value for the money.

Excellent Experience

Stayed 3 nights at the Golden Nugget April 15-18, 2004. The room was not only nice but clean as well. The view was lacking but what can you expect for $49 a night. The staff was not only accomodating but friendly, and they allowed us to check in early (4 hours early). This was the first time I have ever stayed somewhere that when there was a "please do not disturb" sign on the door they actually left you alone. Unlike the housekeeping at the Venetian who almost took the door off of the hinges while attempting to gain access. They (Venetian housekeeping) decided their job was more important than their guests relaxation. Not to mention I spent $300 more a night for their room. (Although it was beautiful, it could never be worth that kind of money). I will continue to stay at the Golden Nugget because you walk out the door and you are on Freemont which was fun. (BTW, Stay away from the Girls of Glitter Gulch, the girls there are rejects from the other Las Vegas strip clubs. AWFUL! But they were nice, I guess) (Save your money for Sapphire's!

Unique Quality: The Golden Nugget was exceptional from the scent of the massive flower arrangements to the sweet smiles on the staff faces. I received many "Hello's" and thank you for staying with us. It was all and all a great experience. By the way, many people *** and moan about the sour faces that greet them when they are guests at a hotel. I am a bartender and it is amazing what please thank you and a smile will get you. Sometimes people reflect your attitude. To those people my suggestion is smile and say thank you and have patience. It's just a common courtesy.

A Downtown Oasis

The Nugget is not only the best hotel downtown; it may have the best customer service in all of Las Vegas. I do gamble some (I'm not quite a high roller--yet), but I am always treated like a queen at this hotel! The dealers are super-friendly, and the rooms are nice (the best ones are in the North Tower). You will feel like you are staying at a great hotel on the Strip, but at half the price.

Unique Quality: The pool is beautiful and clean, but smaller than the ones on the strip. Some rooms have great views. The casino lounge has a nightly show, and the Carson Street Cafe serves the best grilled cheese I've ever had!

GOLDEN NUGGET LAS...

GOLDEN NUGGET LAS VEGAS

Downtown Las Vegas is generally a place of broken dreams,
shabby casinos and the folks who cannot afford the 'Strip'
experience. So what is the Golden Nugget doing down here?

The Golden Nugget is one of the nicest casinos in Las
Vegas. Marble floors, fresh flowers, and well-heeled
gamblers are all here in abundance. While the surrounding
neighborhood is far from appealing, the Nugget itself is
nice.

The Golden Nugget is a top-rate but basic casino. Here you
won't see lots of flash, just lots of serious gambling. The
flashiest attraction here (besides it being a refuge from
the bums who plague downtown Vegas) is a monster gold
nugget on display.

Best bet: Not walking off the hotel grounds for safety
reasons.

The Golden Nugget is actually a pretty nice hotel for the price but last time I was there, it seemed that the crowd was older, even older than me....lots of blue haired ladies :-)

For the downtown area, this would be one of the better hotels. Majority of all the hotels in downtown are smaller than some of the major strip area places. Some would argue dirtier. I like to think just older. Depends on the locale. Plus it's nice to be able to actually walk to other casinos. Walking around on the strip to another property can become a 10K.
You won't need a guidance system to roam throughout the Golden Nugget. Everything is pretty well situated. Best of Luck!

I was there for a convention last November and it is a nice place if a little removed from the new strip. It is next to the Fremont Street experience and several of the original casinos. I liked it.

Stay on the strip around Flamingo Blvd. There's much to see and do. You can ride the monorail up and down to several of the hotels. Rooms should be pretty reasonable in December. Use travelaxe.com to do some comparison shopping. For location and price I'd be looking at the Flamingo, Harrahs, Ballys or TI. Imperial Palace will most likely be the lowest priced hotel/casino, but the rooms and floorplan are getting a bit long in the tooth. More upscale and costly in this area are Caesars and Mirage.

It is a very nice casino on Fremont Street. It is very attractive inside, and it has a fine buffet - as does the Main Street Station a few streets over. The Fremont Street Experience is fun. The Las Vegas Transit buses are in a terminal a few blocks away, and they will take you to the Strip, or you can take a cab. For my money, it's very nice and convenient without the hassle of the Strip, unless the hassle is what you desire.
