More about Hampton Inn Tropicana

The Liberace Museum (need I say more?)

by ricknkat

The Liberace Museum, 1775 E. Tropicana, Las Vegas. Open Mon-Sat 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

I love this place and it just got a huge facelift (Liberace would be proud) and is worth the 6 or 7 bucks admission. Everything you ever wanted to know about the man that made the boa such a cool male accessory.

Excalibur Hotel

by Blatherwick

he Excalibur Hotel/Casino is a hotel and casino located on the Las Vegas Strip at 3850 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Las Vegas, Nevada. It is one of the large casinos owned by the Mandalay Resort Group. As of June 2004, the Mandalay Resort Group was purchased by MGM Mirage adding this hotel to its vast array of properties on the Strip.

Excalibur, named for the mythical sword of King Arthur, uses the Arthurian theme in several ways. Its facade is a stylized image of a castle, with a wizardlike figure representing Merlin looking out from a high turret. Restaurants and other areas have Arthurian names, such as the Roundtable Buffet, or reflect a broader "ancient Britain" theme, such as the Sherwood Forest Cafe. A long-running show, the "Tournament of Kings," features simulated medieval jousting. The Excalibur hotel also features a wedding chapel.

The Tropicana - Las Vegas Boulevard intersection, where the property sits, is very busy, so pedestrians are not allowed to cross at street level. Instead,

Tropicana, Old but Elegant!

by machomikemd

The Tropicana cannot be beat for location on the corner of Tropicana and Las Vegas Blvd., its neighbors being the MGM Grand, New York/New York and The Excalibur. The rooms are cheap and you get one of the nicer pools in town. This use to be the “Island of Las Vegas” but time and bigger resorts have reduced this once glittering hotel to a second rate property. However, because standards when up elsewhere the Tropicana has had to keep up and you can still find a very good place to stay at an unbelievable price starting at $45 (only Stratosphere has lower room offerings than the Tropicana!)

The Tropicana Resort & Casino has 1,871 rooms and is attached to a 61,000 square foot (5,667 m²) casino. The Tropicana also has 110,000 square feet of convention and exhibit space. This location, Tropicana - Las Vegas Boulevard intersection, has the most hotel rooms of any intersection in the world and as a result is extremely busy. Pedestrians are not allowed to cross at street level. Instead, the Tropicana is linked by overhead pedestrian bridges to its neighboring casinos: to the north across Tropicana Avenue, the MGM Grand Las Vegas, and to the west across the Strip, the Excalibur. Stay here for the price and the location and take advantage of the restaurants at MGM, the nightlife at Mandalay Bay. During the day you still have a very nice pool at the Tropicana.

New York, New York Hotel

by Blatherwick

No, you're not looking at the New York skyline. You are looking at the New York-New York Hotel & Casino. New York-New York uses the New York City theme of its name in many ways. The hotel includes several towers configured to resemble New York City skyscrapers, such as the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building. In front of the property is a pool representing New York Harbor, with a 150 ft replica of the Statue of Liberty, a roller coaster, and a replica of the Brooklyn Bridge. Within the resort, particular gambling areas, bars, eating areas and meeting rooms are named after New York City neighborhoods or landmarks. The main casino area, for example, is named after Central Park, while the "Village Eateries" food court is modeled after New York City's Greenwich Village, even including real menus from New York Chinese takeout restaurants taped to the doors of the mock apartment buildings. New York-New York uses the trademarked slogan "The Greatest City in Las Vegas".

The resort is located on the northwest corner of Tropicana - Las Vegas Boulevard intersection. At street level, pedestrians are blocked from crossing by concrete barriers. Instead, New York-New York is linked by overhead pedestrian bridges to its neighboring casinos to the south (the Excalibur, across Tropicana Avenue) and to the east (the MGM Grand, across the Strip).

Tropicana Las Vegas

Has anyone been to the new Tropicana? And is it on the strip?

Re: Tropicana Las Vegas

by Odinnthor

The Tropicana is still the Tropicana, and it is still on the Strip. No, have not been there since the renevations, but can tell you, - they were long overdue. Still, it looks pretty good from the news and press releases, but cannot tell from personal experience.

Thanks for the update. Any others been there recently?

Not to the Tropicana, but we did stay at another one of the originals, The Flamingo which has also gone under major renovation.

Yes i went in October 2010 it was fabulous, the rooms are really nice, and the beds are comfortable. At the time that I went they did not have a buffet but they do have other resturants there. The staff is really nice and attentive. They were still remodeling or rebuilding the other side. But over all it was resonable and really nice. I would recommend it. PS Considering a lot of the hotels had issues of bed bugs.

Part of my group stayed there recently before we all arrived and moved to a different hotel. I stayed there about 10 years ago, and it was in rough shape. The renovations brought it up to a decent place...nothing spectacular, but not the dump like Hooters next door. The best part of the Trop is the location - easy access to many big name places. The casino is now brighter, though in all honesty, I still don't have a lot of fun playing here for a variety of reasons. Overall, you could do worse, you can certainly do better.

I was looking forward to the Mob Experience here, but I see the price tag is $40 - think I'll wait until that comes down or we start seeing 1/2 off coupons!

A: "West Rim is closer to Las Vegas, but is a huge tourist trap. It isn't actually located inside Grand Canyon National Park. It's a privately run casino / resort type place."
