Trying to plan renewal vows & entertainment

by 25thCelebration

I have read referrals for concerts and will continue to monitor.

I have two main questions:
We are not looking for a large gathering/huge celebration, but a 'gimmicky'/cheesey? ceremony with one other couple to renew our vows. Not necessarily silly, but not formal - have done some research and looking for where not to go & whether it is best to arrange once we are on site (in June)

I have only been to Vegas once before with hub - we talked about renting a car the last time down to see Grand Canyon - how long of a commute, idea of cost, are cars air conditioned since we are dealing with hot season (june)

I have been monitoring shows, suggestions on checking updates - how frequent, nothing has really caught the varied styles of the 4 travelling. See Donny & Marie - does not appeal to the spouse.

Thanks

Gimmicky and cheesey all rolled up into one fun renewing vows with the King of Rock & Roll, Elvis. See the website: http://www.vivalasvegasweddings.com/elvis_wedding_packages.htm

The Grand Canyon South Rim is about a 5 and 1/2 hour drive, depending on traffic, so it's a long day if not planning on spending the night. Accommodations book months in advance for the high season so if considering this, I'd book a hotel NOW. Entry cost for the canyon is only $25 per car (not per person).

Here is the park website - be sure to look at South Rim versus North Rim info.

http://www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/index.htm

You can, of course, do the North Rim instead but lodging and concession options are far fewer than at the south. Can't really give you a cost as rental cars will vary by type, and lodging can range from $150 to over $300.

A word of warning: don't get lured into the bus tours from Vegas to Grand Canyon WEST. This is NOT the National Park and is to a very touristy attraction called Skywalk. Lots of bad reviews/disappointed people out there on that one. No, if you want to do the canyon, make the time/money to do the overnight at the actual park. There are some bus tours that include an overnight stay but don't know if you're interested in those?

Another option might be to go up to Zion National Park. You'd shave off a few hours of driving time and that's a gorgeous park as well.

Loads of choice with regard to Las Vegas shows. In the end I couldnt choose, so just picked up tickets a few hours before each show from one of the discount ticket booths on the strip.

I would suggest also checking prices at the theatre box office as my supposedly "discount" tickets for Jersey Boys were being sold for the same price at the Palazzo box office half an hour before the curtain went up.

I can recommend both Jersey Boys at the Palazzo and Cirque du Soleil KA at the MGM if both are still playing.

Obviously if you are wanting to see a "headline" act, in Vegas for one night only, then prebooking would be essential.

Donny & Marie, for reasons unbeknown to me reamins one of the most popular shows in Vegas so it must have something going for it. Sit the spouse in front of a poker machine for a couple of hours and go and enjoy the show!

Travel Tips for Las Vegas

More than just Gambling

General tips

by Refosco

Value is what Las Vegas offers. From low hotels rates, to fine dining (top chefs work in Vegas restaurants), to cheap and filling breakfast. Plus, walk from hotel to hotel. Not only they are very interesting to see, all so differently themed, but you can often find a great music show which you can watch for free, while sipping a beer or a daiquiri.
Get information before you go and you will save some money and have a great vacation. There are plenty of free shows, plenty of huge breakfasts below $ 5, and remember if you are gambling to ask the cashier for the Player's Card. That card will give you comps (short for complimentaries) based on how much you play. Comps can be reedemed toward meals, shows, and hotel rooms discounts. Honestly the best memory is when the last night I hit the roulette table at the Venetian big time.
Seriously, there are plenty of things to do, and to see in Vegas. It would be a long list.

Make a BUDGET and NEVER, NEVER...

Make a BUDGET and NEVER, NEVER spend more. Visit all the hotels and take your time. The newest hotels are always the best. I still having in my memory the noise and the powerful colors from the casinos.

Walgreens

by Yaqui

I always carry extra medicines because I like to be prepared encase any of us does get sick on the road or if we just need lotion or sunscreen. So when I saw a Walgreens, right next if not part of the Palazzo Hotel, I thought how nice that must be for many of guest that are staying here or any of the other hotels near by.

..... take a closer look at ancient Egypt. The LUXOR has become one of the landmarks of Las Vegas. At night, the laser beam from its top reaches far up into the sky.
The rooms inside are different, too. The pyramid is hollow, so the rooms sort of hang from the walls - no idea how they did that. And the elevators can´t go straight up, of course, so they are 'inclinators'.

A bit of a shock is the fact that in order to fill the interior of the pyramid, they built a cardboard Manhattan..... :-(
