Dress Code or Lack Of

by nicolaitan

During our upcoming several day stay, we have front section tickets for two shows and reservations for at least one very upscale hotel restaurant. what is considered appropriate wear - is a jacket required anywhere for men?

Re: Dress Code or Lack Of

Possibly but considering the temps in LV even at this time of year perhaps not. It will very much depend on the venue. I've been to some of LV's oldest and best and have been surprised at the casual dress code for dining. Show's on the other hand...pretty much anything goes even on opening night. Not unlike what I've experienced in NYC on Broadway in recent years.

I have found it is better to overdress than underdress. Upscale hotel restaurant may require a collar shirt, tie and jacket. Check with the restaurant. Show time dressing is another thing. If a night show, a collar shirt is nice, but again it depends on the show. Front section tickets and you may want to dress it up. Vegas does have an unwritten rule of "dress to impress", sometimes it just feels good to be dressed up a bit. Remember, if Las Vegas is hot outside, the inside of hotels, casinos, restaurants and show theatres are on frigid mode or cool.

Travel Tips for Las Vegas

MGM Lion Habitat

by thecatsmeow

Inside MGM is a Lion Habitat. The lions are in residence throughout each day and are rotated so that they do not become stressed. They actually reside on a ranch a few miles away. The viewing area is pretty unique and you can actually walk under them sometimes. Lions are in residence from 11am to 10 pm daily. The times of viewings are posted. This is a free exhibit and something all the kids I saw really enjoyed.

Both water and the alcoholic type of drinks!

On the southern end of "The Strip" and there are several mini-marts at the AM/PM gas stations. You can buy water & soda in various sizes, and snacks.

The AM/PM mini-marts I am talking about are on 1. Las Vegas Boulevard (the strip) at Reno St; 2. Las Vegas Boulevard between Tropicana and Reno streets.

The first thing I did was scout out for these mini-marts to stock up on water!

Another tip is that if you are gambling, the drinks are free! If in the casinos while you are using the slots or at the gaming tables you order from the casino waitstaff ladies walking around. It is customary to tip the staff who brings you the drinks. They work hard and are on their feet for very long shifts.

Walk the strip. I know it sounds simple but really that's all you have to do. You will find all kinds of interesting things to get into. In most of the casinos there are some rockin' dance clubs but dress to impress. The Luxor (pyramid) was probably my favorite casino. The Egyptian theme is carried out to the max here. If you go make sure to check out the club inside called Ra.

Good fun at Casino Royale

by Reactor

My friend and I happened upon Casino Royale by accident, but I'm really glad we did. It's a bit grittier than the surrounding casinos like Venetian or Caesars, but I liked it that way. The dealers were really great - lots of fun and helpful if you need it. The waitresses were there with the drinks constantly. The crowd in general was loud and fun (well, at least our table was anyway). I also hit 4 aces on the Video Poker machine!! I'll be going back again.

Take a look at what the various resorts do to dress up their pool areas.
These are the pools at the Flamingo. There's actually several pools all interconnected with short little slides. The large main pool has waterfalls and palm trees. Just above this pool is a smaller pool with flamingo's all around it 'squirting' into the pool.
