Can anyone give me a direction for best views of las vegas from car, from top of the mountain, from scenic drives, etc,,, Thanks
One of my favorite views of Las Vegas is from Lake Las Vegas in Henderson. Driving into the Lake area and heading up past the Ritz-Carlton to the homes higher up in the hills gives a panorama of Las Vegas and the strip. It is about a 20 minute drive from LV to LLV on the way to Lake Mead. Lake Las Vegas is worth a stop as it has a Tuscany feel with hotels, restaurants, shops, a casino and a lake to boat on. Plus a great golf course.
yous could try the Stratosphere casino or for something really 'out there' a helicopter ride from HeliUsa.

I used this company in 2000 for a trip to the Grand Canyon and would recommend them.
Hi
I'd recommend the top of the Stratosphere hotel (at the end of the Strip). Alternatively, you can get good views from the Paris hotel..
Beware that you have to pay to use the lift in the Stratosphere unless you buy drinks or food in the bar/restuarant below the observation deck.
There's a bar a the top of the Mandalay Bay hotel from where you can get great views of the strip - both from the glass elevators on the way up and also once you reach the bar itself.
You can check out my Las Vegas travel page. A photo of the strip from our hotel window at Treasure Island. I think certain hotels on the strip can offer you a great view. No scenic drives I'm aware of. No mountain close enough to see the details of the menagerie. Driving or walking on the strip is the experience!
All are good, I really like the top of the Stratosphere. Go up for a few drinks just prior to sunset. The bar prices did not seem all that bad. Food is very good but seems $$$$.
The other place that has a great view is up at Green Valley Ranch near the Elephant Bar and Lucille's BBQ. Both have great food, but I like Lucille's a little better. The views from inside are none, but from around the parking lot and area is good. Green Valley gives you a nice view of the entire area.

You don't have to gamble to have fun in Vegas, so don't worry. There are tons of shops (some the usual thing... Gap, Guess, etc, and some are fantastic art galleries and high end shops like Versace) and attractions. Take advantage of the (free) shows in every casino. For example, Aladdin has acrobatics demonstrations, Caesar's has the Neptune show, Harrah's has 24 hours of live music outdoors, and the Venetian has costumed Renaissance actors that put on skits. It's so much fun to walk in and out of all the casinos to see the shows.
I would take them to Lake Meade, and Hoover Dam, two of the easiest sites to see. Red Rock Canyon and Mt. Charleston are also nice. Mt. Charleston has a lodge and resturant and is beautiful. The view of area from up in the mountains at night is gorgeous. I live up on Sunrise Mt. just so that I may enjoy the view of all the lights at night.
Most of the casinos have some free entertainment or attraction for children, bums and other people without money.
Treasure Island's pirates are probably one of the most popular attractions, they draw huge crowds with their regular shows. You'll see sword fights, cannon fire and a sinking ship!
There's also the volcano at the Mirage (which also has a wonderful tropical paradise garden inside) which is linked to Treasure Island by monorail.
.... look for the knights, ladies, magicians, dragons and gnomes inside the Excalibur. This place is great for kids. - The restaurants inside have funny names - Sir Galahad´s Ribs is not exactly what I´d like to eat! But it makes you smile.
