Let's face it; there are dozens of great tips here on VT that will tell you how fabulous the Luxor is. And it really is a great hotel. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and the service is exceptional.
So I won't waste time telling you all that again. Nope, I'm going to tell you about the only two bad things I encountered during my stay.
Just so you know, I've spent more nights in Hotels than most Vegas hookers, so I have some experience with hotels. I found the Luxor to be very good, and I would recommend it to absolutely anyone looking for a good, relatively inexpensive hotel.
So without further adieu, here is the first drawback:

    Drawback One - The Bathroom:
A great, big, luxurious bathroom. In the Tower portion of the hotel there is a spacious tub and a roomy shower stall. It's tiled from floor to ceiling but the walls are paper thin and allow any sounds to be easily heard from within the room.
    'So what?' you say...
Well, if you're visiting Vegas on a romantic get away, the last thing you want your mate to hear is the noises of the Pharoah's Pheast leaving your body. The Luxor buffet is hard to resist, but the next morning won't be pretty.
A simple bathroom fan would have been a nice touch here. (and don't even think about a courtesy flush - not with the water-saving toilets!)

For the second drawback of the Luxor, please see the next tip...

  • Most annoying iron ever. - Las Vegas
    Most annoying iron ever.

OK, as I said in my other Luxor tip, the hotel is great and I highly recommend it... but here is the second of the two drawbacks I felt obligated to point out...

    The Iron and Ironing Board:
I know many people don't care about the iron, but I consider it critical to any decent hotel to have an iron and an ironing board.
I was satisfied to see the Luxor had an easily accessible ironing board in one of the two spacious closets. (the closets have lights, too, by the way).
But my complaint with the iron is that it is an extremely cheap iron, and even more annoying, is that it is securly fastened to the ironing board with a short wire. This severely limits your ability to iron your clothes, because you can't move the iron very far. I know the Luxor pays close attention to ancient Egyptian decor, but this ancient custom of making the iron theft-proof goes just a little too far. Free the iron, Luxor! Free the iron!!

Oh, and the iron spewed water all over my dress shirt when I tried to press my shirt. Not cool.

The Luxor Hotel is located on the South end of the Las Vegas Strip. The Hotel is housed in a 36 story black glass and bronze pyramid with a sphinx. The theme and decore is all Art Deco / Egyptian. It has several restaurants, shops, lounges, casino, spa and several theaters with live shows and an IMAX theater.

Our rooms were located in the new towers and were nice but did not have the sloped ceilings like the rooms that are located in the pyramid. We did enjoy the novelty of riding in the "inclinators" (elevators) that travel along the 39-degree incline of the pyramids sloped walls to get to the upper floors.

We got our rooms for a very low price, in an online pkg deal. The Luxor often has special rates offered by different travel & entertainment web sites, so it is a good idea to shop around.

The Luxor is a fine, middle-of-the-road hotel on the Strip. It looks like a giant pyramid - and it's said the shaft of light that shines through the top can be seen in space. The Egyptian theme is carried throughout the interior of the hotel as well. The rooms are nice sized, clean and adequate. The interior design is nothing special but it does it's job. My favorite thing about the rooms was the tub. Our bathroom had a separate shower and bathtub. The bathtub was deep and perfect for a relaxing soak. It is connected to Mandalay Bay and Excalibur by a monorail that runs frequently. Overall I would say that it's a perfectly fine hotel to stay in if you're looking for affordable accommodations on the Strip.

The Spa is nice. We were going to book spa treatments at Mandalay Bay but it was booked. The Spa at the Luxor is cheaper. If you book any spa treatments you are allowed to use the spa, steam room and saunas for as long as you like before and after your treatments for free. They also offer complementary bottled water, juices, coffee, tea, breakfast bars and muffins.

Luxor Hotel & Casino: Grab a suite if you can...   Compare Rates NEW!

  • Having read about peoples dreadful check in nightmares, I was concerned. Everything was fine, the reception is spacious, although a little dark, as is the whole of the pyramid. We were given the opportunity of a discounted upgrade to a suite. There were 3 of us, and it was lovely. Nice living room, and 2 seperate bedrooms either side, in East Tower. Quietest rooms I've ever stayed in, and immaculately clean. Shower was the most powerful I've ever used. I'd recommend it for the facilities, but it is right at one end of the strip and in high summer that can be a problem as it is too blooming hot to walk about.

Really good breakfast choices in food court upstairs in pyramid. Luxor Coffee Company do very nice pastries and good tea and coffee. View from our windows was of Excalibur, but could see mountains in the distance.

Luxor Hotel & Casino: An Egyptian experience   Compare Rates NEW!
  • Tip Rating:

  • As with many hotels along the Strip in Las Vegas, this is no different in the sense that it has a "theme" to it. The Luxor features an Egyptian theme with its colossal pyramid and Sphinx. The rooms were a decent size and to be perfectly honest, the rooms in the newer wings are actually nicer. The pool area is large and easy to find, unlike some of the mazes that are the other hotels. There are various restaurants to choose from inside the hotel like a 24hr cafe or one of the newer, upscale restaurants. Club Ra is the famous club that is in the hotel. If you are a guest, you can get into the VIP line. It's reasonably priced for a hotel on the Strip. Don't come looking for a Bellagio type of experience here, but it certainly isn't shabby either! Really no different than your standard Hilton or Marriott hotel room.

The elevators in the pyramid are pretty funky and if you ride in them, you will get to experience what it's like to be in an elevator that is tilted to accomodate the slope of the pyramid. The Blue Man Group (as of 2004) is still performing here and their show is great! Don't miss out on the opportunity to check it out. There is also a tram that can take you to Mandalay Bay or Excalibur - just make sure you read the signs correctly.

Luxor Hotel & Casino: Top suicide hotel !   Compare Rates NEW!

  • A good hotel and well situated although only about 12 years old it is no longer one of the Premier Hotels --only because newer ones have cost billions .
    Very Good .
We ate in various places --the Steak House is particuarly good here ,excellent quality ----staff ,food ,decor ---do book though .

Do not stay in the pyramid if you feel depressed or are likely to loose all your possessions . The rooms are entered by balconies that overlook the Casino area and apparently there is an issue with suicides !
The Buffet was moved downstairs because of this !

  • This hotel was fabulous! I don't even know where to begin......
On arrival we were checked in to one of the rooms in the gigantic pyramid!!! We were on the 17th floor - it is amazing how big it is inside!! The room was lovely with 2 big double beds and a bathroom with a shower big enough for an entire family!!!
The hotel is like a maze and i am sure that it took the whole time we were there to figure out where everything was!
The hotel is linked to a monorail which takes to you to the Mandalay Bay and the Excalibur but these too can be reached by just walking through the hotel!
You get a coupon for the buffet here, but it wasn't as good as some of the others that we went to! (you can still get steak for breakfast though!!!!!)
We took advantage of the free blackjack lessons.....which were really good...even won some dollars!!!
The only disadvantage was everywhere is so big, it just looks like the hotels are next to each other, when in fact there is a distance between them....so don't walk everywhere like we did.....use the monorails and the bus service to save time!!

  • We stayed at the Luxor Hotel on our Vegas adventure. We arrived on a Thursday and left on a Sunday. The hotel was a very fun place to stay until the last night, I'll get to that later. We stayed in the pyramid because we wanted to say we did so. The "inclinator" was fun and our room was pretty large to accommadate for the large slant in the wall. The buffet at the Luxor was good and their pool area was beautiful. There were two or three pools? One morning I woke up early and was treated very nicely by the staff. They gave me vouchers to gamble and I never spent any money of my own there. Now the problem. We were on the fourth floor or somthing, which happened to be directly above their dance club. Our last night there, Saturday, we were up all night to the vibrations from their sound system. I think they closed at about 4:00am? We were there when Alladin was being built and Paris and New York, New York looked like much more fun places to stay. Bellagio if we could afford it. If you have the money to splurge in hotel stay at a nicer hotel. If you want to spend your money gambling and partying, go less on the hotel room because you won't really be in there!

The pools were awesome. We loved sitting in the sun and having three pools to choose from to cool off in. We also were impressed by the inclinator, the elevator that goes up the sides of the pyramid. Fun experience.

  • MY WIFE AND I STAYED FOR THREE NIGHTS IN THE LUXOR AND LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF OUR STAY. RIGHT FROM THE MOMENT WE TOUCHED DOWN AT THE AIRPORT WE COULD SEE THE LUXOR AND COULD NOT WAIT TO GET INSIDE. CHECKIN WAS FAST AND POLITE AND IN NO TIME WE WHERE IN THE FAMOUS INCLINATOR LIFT THAT GOES UP DIAGONALLY..COOL !!
OUR ROOM WAS A GOOD SIZE AND CLEAN, THE BATHROOM WAS ALSO A GOOD SIZE WITH A HUGE WALK IN SHOWER. OUR ROOM WAS IN THE PYRAMID WHICH WAS WHAT WE HAD BOOKED, YOU CAN STAY IN THE TOWER ROOMS, A BUILDING OVER FROM THE MAIN PYRAMID BUT HEY HOW OFTEN DO YOU GET TO STAY IN A HOTEL THIS SHAPE ? AND AS FOR NOISE WE NEVER HEARD A THING.. THERE ARE LOADS OF THINGS TO DO IN AND AROUND THE LUXOR THERE IS THE CASINO OF COURSE, THE I-MAX CINEMA AND AT THE TIME WE WHERE THERE YOU COULD GO AND SEE THE BLUE MAN GROUP. THE POOL AREA IS VERY GOOD THE ONLY REAL GRIPE I WOULD HAVE IS THAT THERE WHERE NO SUN SHADES WITH THE SUNBEDS, AND AS YOU KNOW IT CAN GET PRETTY HOT OUT THERE. THE LUXOR IS LINKED BY A WALKWAY AND MONORAIL WITH THE MANDALAY BAY WHERE YOU CAN DO LOADS MORE SHOPPING IF THATS YOUR THING, OTHER HOTELS CLOSE AT HAND ARE THE EXCALIBUR, NEW YORK NEW YORK AND MGM GRAND. THE FOOD WAS VERY GOOD AND BREAKFAST AT THE LUXOR WAS HUGE AND REALLY SET YOU UP FOR THAT WALK DOWN THE STRIP !!
ALL IN ALL I WOULD RATE THE LUXOR VERY HIGHLY AND WOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM STAYING HERE AGAIN THE NEXT TIME WE'RE IN VEGAS..

THE LUXOR'S UNIQUE QUALITES IS THAT YOU GET TO STAY IN A LITTLE BIT OF EGYPT RIGHT IN THE HEART OF LAS VEGAS, THAT FEELING OF EATING SLEEPING SHOPPING DRINKING GAMBLING ALL INSIDE A HUGE PYRAMID NEVER LEFT ME..WHERE ELSE CAN YOU DO IT ON SUCH A GRAND SCALE !!! AND HAVE SUCH FUN DOING IT.
