Luxor
The Luxor has been on the strip for at least 10 years (probably quite a bit longer). It is in the shape of a pyramid, but due to the expansion of the hotel, has two buildings to the side which are hotel rooms.
As a hotel it is so, so. However, i strongly recommend that if you stay there, ask for a room in one of the towers (as opposed to the pyramid - which can be a little noisy).
The rooms are fairly large, and not too tired. Price is a little below average for the strip.'However, as with all hotels on the strip - prices vary each night!
Unique Quality: Avoid the pryamid rooms, unless you are a heavy sleeper.
A good medium priced place to stay

Classy and Affordable Luxor
Five nights at South Strip's Luxor Hotel and Casino provided what turned out to be an experience unexpected and salary saving. Myself and eight guys booked two rooms in the West Tower the first week of September 2005 hoping to save some money and have a good time doing so in our hotel.
That we did, and though the Luxor doesn't provide some of the glitz/glamour that the Bellagio or even Mandalay Bay next door possess, it offers larger newly renovated rooms at an exceptionally cheaper price. Our rooms averaged 79US through the week and 229US on Saturday night.
For those looking to save money, but not lose class or be placed far off the strip I would recommend the Luxor and its gentle presence of a casino. The Luxor, though claiming a maze of slots, tables and ATMs, seems to promote its hotel and hospitality as much as its casino floor. The large pool area is nothing to shake a stick at either.
Unique Quality: Great pool and atmosphere around the pool area. Nicely renevated rooms in the Tower. Poker room, small though easy to get a table. Buffet and Isis, a national top 10 gourmet restaurant.

A pyramid in the desert?
I've stayed at Caesars, Treasure Island (twice), Rio, Monte Carlo, Bourbon Street (don't ask), Excalibur (first time, yikes), and the Luxor a couple of times.
Location? The south end is the nicest, so it's good. It's connected to Mandalay Bay (you can pretend you're staying there ;) Who stays at the north end of the strip? Freaks.
The buffet is very good for the price ($10.49 for lunch!) and it's laid out spaciously.
Unique Quality: Don't go comparing it to the Bellagio or the Venetian. Look at the difference in price! Stay in the towers. They are nicer, bigger, and cleaner than the pyramid rooms. The pool area is nice and the spa is great ($20 gets you 24 hrs of usage, incl the fitness area). Check-in can be long. I've seen the line ups but I've always checked in at odd times so I haven't experienced it.
Don't ask me about the shows, I was too drunk :) The Luxor, in my opinion, is the best value for your money on the strip. Now I'll be staying at the Luxor again in a few weeks...yeehaw!

A touch of Egypt in Las Vegas
This was my 1st visit to Vegas, and I enjoyed our stay in The Luxor, the spa facilities were fantastic and so was the pool. The food was also excellent and there was lots of choice.
I'd say its a 'grand' hotel and you can still feel comfortable in casual clothes or you could go glam.
Unique Quality: Staying at the Luxor was very grand, the rooms were very spacious and decorated in a very Eastern feel.
The Oasis Spa is worth a visit, as its very realaxing and great after a hectic day

Luxor Drawback Number Two
OK, as I said in my other Luxor tip, the hotel is great and I highly recommend it... but here is the second of the two drawbacks I felt obligated to point out...
The Iron and Ironing Board:
I know many people don't care about the iron, but I consider it critical to any decent hotel to have an iron and an ironing board.
I was satisfied to see the Luxor had an easily accessible ironing board in one of the two spacious closets. (the closets have lights, too, by the way).
But my complaint with the iron is that it is an extremely cheap iron, and even more annoying, is that it is securly fastened to the ironing board with a short wire. This severely limits your ability to iron your clothes, because you can't move the iron very far. I know the Luxor pays close attention to ancient Egyptian decor, but this ancient custom of making the iron theft-proof goes just a little too far. Free the iron, Luxor! Free the iron!!
Unique Quality: Oh, and the iron spewed water all over my dress shirt when I tried to press my shirt. Not cool.

Great Hotel, BUT...
Let's face it; there are dozens of great tips here on VT that will tell you how fabulous the Luxor is. And it really is a great hotel. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and the service is exceptional.
So I won't waste time telling you all that again. Nope, I'm going to tell you about the only two bad things I encountered during my stay.
Just so you know, I've spent more nights in Hotels than most Vegas hookers, so I have some experience with hotels. I found the Luxor to be very good, and I would recommend it to absolutely anyone looking for a good, relatively inexpensive hotel.
So without further adieu, here is the first drawback:
Unique Quality: Drawback One - The Bathroom:
A great, big, luxurious bathroom. In the Tower portion of the hotel there is a spacious tub and a roomy shower stall. It's tiled from floor to ceiling but the walls are paper thin and allow any sounds to be easily heard from within the room.
'So what?' you say...
Well, if you're visiting Vegas on a romantic get away, the last thing you want your mate to hear is the noises of the Pharoah's Pheast leaving your body. The Luxor buffet is hard to resist, but the next morning won't be pretty.
A simple bathroom fan would have been a nice touch here. (and don't even think about a courtesy flush - not with the water-saving toilets!)
For the second drawback of the Luxor, please see the next tip...

Nice Egyptian Theme
Stayed there in October 2000 as part of my 10 day tour of California & Nevada, and the size of the place was amazing.
I was staying in the tower bit, but I had a ride in those sideways lifts that go up the main pyramid to have a look at the amazing view of the pyramid interior.
They do a nice buffet breakfast in this huge Pharos basement area. I like the way all the themed hotels are linked with walkways so you can walk from one to the next without going outside.

Sleep like an egyption
This hotel is an above average hotel. It is furnished with great decor, but could use a little touch up, for example the rugs in the hallways. The free
Unique Quality: Perhaps no other hotel in the world has as grand and mystical an air as the Luxor. Contained in a 30-story black glass pyramid and a pair of stepped-pyramid towers is all the splendor of ancient Egypt and all the technological wonders of the modern world, paired with the no-holds-barred showmanship that made Vegas an adjective.
In addition there is a giant beam of light coming out of the top of the pyramid. This is a great navigation tool for finding your way back, it really helps when you are drunk.
Despite common beliefs, the light is emitted from 39 individual lamps, instead of one very powerful lamp. These specialized lamps, called Xenon lamps, costs $1,200 each and will last for up to 2,000 hours. Each lamp is 7,000 watts.
The Luxor Hotel located in Las Vegas is the second largest hotel in the United States. The hotel also is home to the largest indoor atrium in the world.

luxor hotel
I'll be staying with my husband at the Luxor hotel this summer, and i was wondering what was the best: choosing a room in the pyramid ( it seems a lot of fun to take their inclined elevators, but the rooms look pretty tiny....) or choosing a room in one of their towers (they look much bigger on the Internet site, with nicer furniture.). Has anyone experienced both? Which one can offer the best view?
We'll be travelling from France, so we're really concerned with the quality of our stay!
Thanks for your help!
Re: luxor hotel
We had a room in the pyramid facing the Excalibur and the room was certainly large enough. Huge bathroom with separate shower and bathtub. I would probably recommend the pyramid for the novelty of it and ask for a room facing the strip though the view isn't a big deal since you probably won't be spending much time in your room.
Re: luxor hotel
I Stayed In A Pyramid Room Last Year And Though The Rooms Are Smaller Than In The Tower I Would Hardly Call Them Small And I Did Had A Great View Of The Mountains.
If You Do Stay In The Pyramid And Want To Use The Inclinator Lift Be Sure To Get A High Floor Because I Was On The 3rd Floor Which Uses Just A Normal Elevator And Unless You Have A Room Key You Are Not Allowed In The Inclinators Which Have A Security Guard At Every One.
Re: Re: luxor hotel
I stayed in the tower closest to the Excalibur this past May. The room was very nice and I would say it was average size. The view was good out of the North Tower. The pyramid is definitely a shorter walk to most of the hotel's attractions.
Re: luxor hotel
Stayed in a Pyramid room, and it was nice - even though I spent very little time in it.
I highly recommend the Pina Colodas at the pool. And the spa is nice, too.

Q: Grand Canyon Tours "Hello Can anyone suggest some any tours to the Grand Canyon by bus.. I have looked at Helicopters but this could be a bit out..."
A: "West Rim is closer to Las Vegas, but is a huge tourist trap. It isn't actually located inside Grand Canyon National Park. It's a privately run casino / resort type place."
