Ok, we did not stay at MGM but our very comfortable (after two months in a tent, it was positively luxurious) Motel 6 was just across the street from the Strip mainstay pictured. For a very reasonable $48 it had a big Queen sized bed, carpet (try camping for two months and realize what a big deal this taken-for-granted thing is), TV with remote (not that we used it all that much), shower/toilet in the room (again, after a few months of having to walk to the nearest facility sometimes in the middle of the night makes you appreciate some very simple things), and free wireless Internet. We booked right from their website and received a bit of a discount.
Unique Quality: We could have easily stayed here a few nights. In fact, it was tough to get us out of the room at all but we did do a bit of sight seeing, a wee bit gambling, and of course, lots of eating. They were nice enough to let us park on the lot the second day while we went to lunch and did a little more exploring. We left late afternoon and stopped in Barstow, CA at yet another Motel 6 which got us closer to LA for an early arrival the next day.
Directions: The location is tough to beat, a half-block from The Strip, so walkable to just about anything in town. Well, we had to drive to the Hofbrau Haus but VT friend Ernst was gracious enough to pick us up since he had to drive to Santa Barbara that night.
