International Food Shopping

by MadAboutParis

Are there any good grocery stores with international foods?

Re: International Food Shopping

by Beausoleil

You are probably looking for International Marketplace on Decatur near the corner of Tropicana.

Don't know what you have at home but there is at least one Whole Foods. We have one near us and love it. They bake their own bread, make their own gelato, use local pastry shops if they have one. It's an organic food store chain but a really fun experience and you can get nearly everything there. Ours also has a food court that covers quite a few countries and it's all good. You can eat inside but it's more fun to sit at the outside tables when the weathe is good.

Another chain is Trader Joe's and there are a couple in Vegas. Some are better than others, but they all usually have a pretty good selection of international foods. One that may be unique to Vegas is Wild Oats and I've never been there so can't tell you anything about it but you could try a Google search and see what they have.

Hope you have a fun trip!

Thanks to both of you for your comments - we have both Trader Joe's & Whole Foods here, as well as Fresh Market and a crazy, wild private store called Jungle Jim's

I should probably just set aside an afternoon to dive the 40 minutes to Jungle Jim's...thanks for opening my eyes to what I have in my own backyard!

Travel Tips for Las Vegas

Cheap Bottled Water

by Fuzk84

As you walk along the strip, you might come across people who are selling cold bottled water. If you are feeling thirsty, do buy one from them as they are selling them for much cheaper prices than at the hotels or some of the malls. I came across one on a bridge near Wynn that was selling a botle for 75cents, as compared to the $2-$3 per bottle at most places.

Fresh Air and Ski Lifts

by LasVegasLdy

I love Mt. Charleston..35 minutes from Las Vegas and you have the most beautiful weather. When it is hot in the city, the best place to be is Mt. Charleston. Drive up to the top, about 8300 ft, and you find the Ski Lodge and Ski Lifts and Snowboard Runs that make you think this can't still be Las Vegas, but it is. A little ways down the mountain is Mt. Charleston Lodge. A great place to have a good meal and enjoy the view, or you can stay in one of the many log cabins they have. The cabins are very lovely on the inside, with a fantastic bathtub that is also a jacuzzi.
You won't believe the greenery. The trees, the grass, the meadows, and the wonderful camp grounds.
Las Vegas isn't all glitter, and cement...seeing is believing.

A Town of Suspended Reality!

by lmkluque

Each year bigger and more spectacular hotels and casinos pop up, drawing the crowds on The Strip but I still like spending time "Downtown."

Don't miss the $1,000,000.00 on display at Binion's Horseshoe .

Located downtown. My first trip to Las Vegas and my first view of one million dollars!!

That was so long ago. :-)

Other Things to do In Las Vegas

by RACCOON1

You should not start to walk the casinos until around 6:00 pm or when it cools down.

There are other things to do for day time activities such as :
(1) visiting Hoover Dam
(2) watching USAF planes landing and taking off at Nelllis AFB , the home of the USAF Thunderbirds. Please note that the area around the Air Base is quite seedy.
(3) Driving up to Mt. Charlston , located around 35 miles NW of Vegas. This is a good place to cool off , the top of the drive being at 8500 ft. altitude. Drive north from Vegas on highway # 95 and turn off at highway #157 . For the drive down take the alternate route highway # 156 . The descent offers a spectacular view and the road has few curves which makes the descent a bit exciting

A: "West Rim is closer to Las Vegas, but is a huge tourist trap. It isn't actually located inside Grand Canyon National Park. It's a privately run casino / resort type place."
