Lake Tahoe is always nice and you are closer to the north shore which in my opinion is the nicer part of the lake. You can head south of Reno and head over the pass to Inclide Village to get to north shore. The Nevada State Museum, in Carson City, is very nice and also south of Reno a little ways.

For museums there is the Nevada Museum of Art and the National Automobile Museum. Both are walking distance from the downtown casinos. At the Univerity of Nevada,a longer walk or a short bus ride from downtown is the W.M.Keck Earth Science and Mineral Engineering museum and for something a little different there is also a small planetarium (Fleishcmann)at the University.

Reno and Sparks also have numerous great special events. Looking at your home page I would think a great one for you would be Street Vibrations. Street Vibrations is a huge motorcycle rally held each year in September.

Not a damn thing except go to an ATM to get more cash for the casinos.

thanks for your reply. Now I have somewhere to go tomorrow.
Street Vibrations is not for me, have been invited a few times.
Not into the big bike scene, to many wannabees, I like to ride by myself,
or with a small group that knows how to ride.

ha ha, Larry! I have to agree. In the town of Reno there is little to do. Especially at this time of year. There is a great wine store in a little house just north of town I think. I bought a case of Caymus Cab for a low price. Oh and good prices on Cowboy boots

Definitely visit beautiful Lake Tahoe. Also Virginia City, an old silver mining town where Mark Twain was once a writer at the Territorial Enterprise. It's halfway between Reno and Carson City.

Stay in a casino - the Atlantis, Peppermill or John Asguaqa's Nugget in Sparks. Watch the action and gamble a little.

Dine at LuLous for really gourmet fare. Owners go to S.F. frequently to get ideas.
This restaurnt is on Virginia street - cross st. Mt. Rose.

Visit Harrah's automobile Museum.

Walk along the River by the downtown theatre. Riverwalk. Really nice and pretty walk.

Stop by Idlewild Park. Reno is a City of parks and lakes. Winning $4000 at the Peppermill Casino after a $20.00 investment on a dollar machine., This was 1 year ago and I have never won since. Just a caveat.

Silver Legacy Mine Shaft and Money Cruncher

by SteveOSF

The Silver Legacy Casino has an interesting silver mine scene complete with what I call the "Money Cruncher". The Money Cruncher is a large structure that imitates making silver dollars from an elaborate and somewhat enormous mine shaft display. Catwalks go up and through the display. When the money periodically crunches through the machine, it can be heard as far away as the gaming tables. The ceiling depicts night or daytime skies with occasional thunder. This rather fun display is worth a look. When the machine is turning, the casino can be a bit noisier than average.

The story of Sam Fairchild and his silver mine that is plastered throughout the Silver Legacy and its promotional materials is purely fiction. Yet the mine shaft display can be entertaining. To see actual sites of the Comstock Lode mines and explore mining history of Nevada, one should take a short drive to Virginia City.

The rooftop dome in the picture houses the money crunching mine display and sky scene. The building with the abscess on the side of the building in the background is the Bowling Center.

Can You Win at Video Poker?

by SteveOSF

Winning at progressive video poker involves only playing machines after the progressive jackpot exceeds the "break-even point." And then playing quickly and hopefully catch a royal flush to win the pot before someone else claims the prize. All the while, one must play according to a strategy that has been perfected to yield the maximum return from the various possible combinations of potential draws.

Dancing in Daylight

by DarleneCMF

In my last visit to Reno, we passed by Harrahs and there was a band playing outside. There's an open area infront of the stage where people can enjoy the music and dance. It's a relaxing and carefree atmosphere...

Wild Horses East of Reno

by mcpangie

It is a common sight to see wild horses east of Reno. This small band of mustangs was behind Rattlesnake Hill on the eastern edge of Reno.

One of my favorite country music singers Lacy J. Dalton is very active in the protection of mustangs. She lives in Virginia City, nestled in the mountains to the east of Reno. When you come down the Geiger Grade into Reno from Virginia City, you'll even see warning signs that help remind drivers they are running around.
