Travel Tips for Bartlett

Bear Notch Road

by RhondaRuth

Have you noticed the traffic on Route 16 running through North Conway Village & Conway? Unless you intend to stop and shop along the way, it's no fun getting through the heavy traffic if you're trying to get over to the Kancamagus Highway. SOOoooo, there's a shortcut ... from Bartlett on Route 302 .... turn onto Bear Notch Road * and it will come out at the Kancamagus. It also has a couple of beautiful viewing points to stop at along the way.

Bear Notch Road may be closed in the winter.

Bartlett, NH... City people in the wilderness....

by davecallahan

1981.... family camping trip.... first major one for the kids.

Getting late and we are out on route 302, kind of in the boonies.

And we find this great family operated place to pitch tent.

Bartlett, NH
It probably had under 1500 people living there back then (got all the way up to 2700 in the year 2000).
Basically ski-country and a great place to catch a view.
On the edge of White Mountains, near the Crawford Notch.
Would be a great place to have a retirement home if you are into wilderness living.

To be honest, I don't hang around Bartlett much. I tend to stay away from places where a lot of people gather, and Bartlett is unfortunately close to the Attitash ski resort. I may pass through there again and find something else to add to this page, but in the meantime, just check out my tips below.

Visit Bartlett in the foothills of Mt. Washington

"Attitash Bear Peak"

This is ski country! But us "Leaf Peepers" enjoy it in the best season of all ..... the Fall.

At Attitash Bear Peak there is
skiing, boarding, mountain biking, hiking, alpine slides and the water park.

Bartlett is a town that borders North Conway, NH on the northwest and is comprised of the villages of Glen, Intervale and Lower Bartlett. While in Bartlett take a scenic ride and visit the many historic covered bridges in and around the area or take the kids over to Storyland in Glen.

"Attatish Mountain Village in Bartlett, NH"

We stayed with friends in the condo at River Run Condos. Nice quiet place for the nature lovers in the Summer or Fall or most certainly for the skiiers in Winter.

"But we headed up here to see the Colors of Fall!"

Nothing like Leaf Peeping in New Hampshire (or any part of New England). My favorite time of year is in the Fall!

Bartlett, New Hampshire

"A Nice Surprise"

Bartlett is a small New England town of only 2,512 people. Very colorful in the fall especially around their covered bridge.

The Sacro River Bridge is located west of U.S. Route 302, four and one-half miles east of Bartlett Village over the Saco River. The style of the bridge is paddleford truss with added arches, it was built in 1851
The bridge is 166' 10" long with a clear span of 145' 0". It's closed to vehicular traffic but pedestrians may walk across the structure. The bridge was abandoned and closed to traffic in 1939. It was later rebuilt for $20,000.
