More about Carter Notch Inn

The Carter Notch Inn is THE BEST!

by A TripAdvisor Member

We stayed a week at the Carter Notch Inn and I wish we had been able to stay a month! The room was extremely comfortable and the breakfast each morning was fabulous. Most important, though, were Sally and Dick, the innkeepers. The Inn is their home and they welcomed us with open arms and incredible hospitality.

The location is fabulous. It is off the main road, so traffic and its noise is minimal. There is a beautiful golf course across the street and the Falls are mere steps away (perhaps 5 minutes' walk.) Yet, it is only a 3-minute drive to the main highway (16) through the area, with easy access to all the region's attractions.

There are 8 rooms for guests, along with a comfy living area, an office area with a guest computer with high-speed internet access and the guest fridge kept stocked with sodas, wine, and beer. Awesome! Several of the rooms have their own fireplace or wood stove (ours did!) Each morning, we could count on coffee (regular and decaf) and tea being available at around 7 am, with breakfast served from 8 am to 9:30 am. And, oh, what a breakfast! There were wonderful homemade breads to start each day, with the lemon-poppyseed being my favorite. Fresh fruit was always on the menu, followed by a hot breakfast dish such as an omelet, or quiche, or pancakes, or some other delicacy. And there was always cereal available, if we preferred. MMMMM.

After our bike rides and hikes, there was a hot tub on the back deck, with plenty of fluffy towels nearby for our use. The lawnchairs, front porch and side porch beckoned, and Henry the Old-Englich sheepdog kept us company. We lit the outdoor fireplace and sat out one night, enjoying the clear skies and each others' company. Carter Notch Inn is a wonderful, welsoming, relaxing and comfortable Inn with caring, witty, funny hosts in Dick and Sally.

One special note is that they got up extra early one day to give us breakfast at 5:30 am (!!!!) before we drove to Mt. Washington to do the 2005 Bicycle Hillclimb. This was above and beyond the call of duty and is a telling example of how much they care about their guests.

I highly recommend the Carter Notch Inn to anyone who values comfort along with that "personal touch." You will never be just a room number here, and might just feel like family!

Loved my stay at the Carter Notch Inn

My husband and I selected Carter Notch Inn on line and what a pleasant and wonderful surprise to have it surpass our expectations. The Inn is charming and Dick and Sally are delightful hosts....friendly, warm, knowledgeable and helpful. We were there for 5 days in October and 3 weeks later stayed for 5 days at the Ritz Carlton in Palm Beach. My husband and I both said we enjoyed our stay more at the Carter Notch Inn and that is really saying something. The Ritz Carlton preaches customer service but the Carter Notch Inn is really what we consider excellent customer service making it a place we would definitely want to visit again.

The Carter Notch: a delightful home away from home

We just came back from Jackson, NH and the Carter Notch Inn. It is such a quaint and cozy place where you really are welcomed and made to feel at home. It is very clean and nicely furnished yet completely unpretentious. Dick and Sally are jovial hosts and and have done a wonderful job. We loved Henry the sheepdog and Lulu the cat! Even though the auto road to Mt. Washington was closed and the summit was not visible, we still found many things to drive around and see. Breakfast was a time to get together with the other guests and have a nice start to the day. This is the hidden gem in Jackson!

Our travels have taken us to many B&B inns in the United States. Carter Notch Inn is clearly the most beautiful, friendly and cozy place we have stayed. We returned in November for our second annual visit. Dick and Sally are incredible hosts and the dining in Jackson is excellent. Henry eagerly greets visitors and runs Moose patrol on the grounds. We highly recommend the Carter Notch Inn and look forward to many more fall visits.

Our kind of place

My husband and I just returned from a 4 night stay at the Carter Notch Inn in beautiful Jackson, NH. This vacation was a surprise Christmas present from my children; my daughter had spent many, many hours going over this web site in order to choose the B&B for us to stay. She did an excellent job as the Carter Notch Inn was absolutely perfect in every way.
There are many things to do in Jackson and just a few miles away is North Conway. Very good pizza at the Red Fox, and elegant, relaxing dining at the Thompson House Eatery. Also, after an exciting ride on the Cog Railway, stop at The Mount Washington at Bretton Woods cafe for lunch. The food in the main dining room is quite pricey, but we found that we could eat lunch out on the veranda overlooking the beautiful moutains and all the absolutely breathtaking comfort of this elegant, incredible building for less than $25.00 for both of us.
The hosts of the Carter Notch Inn, Dick and Sally made us feel welcome and comfortable from the time we walked in until we hugged them goodbye. The breakfasts were incredible, every day something different and always delicious. They definitely make you feel at home. The rooms are spotless, well cared for, and cozy. We stayed in Room #6 which was huge with a jucuzzi bath, fireplace, porch and huge windows which have a wonderful view. They do an excellent job as hosts. I would recommend staying at the Carter Notch Inn to anyone who is looking for a great place to stay that is quiet, very clean, cozy, and where the hosts make you feel like kings.

Loved it! : )

We stayed at the Carter Notch Inn to see the turning of the leaves. We had such a fabulous time. The house is gorgeous with lots of charm. Dick and Sally were great hosts. We loved the breakfasts, cookies, wine etc and advice on where to go was perfect. The town of Jackson is so pretty with great restaurants. Henry the sheepdog was our favourite too! Thanks very much for such a nice break from the city.

It's perfect!

My husband and I stayed at the Carter Notch Inn October 30th through November 2nd. My husband found it on the Internet, so we were not sure what to expect. We absolutely loved this B&B. Dick and Sally were great, and we couldn't get enough of Henry! Their recommendations of restaurants and hikes made our trip. We were having such a great time, we extended our stay another night. Our room was spotless and cozy, which is very important to me. We will definitely visit them again and would recommend it to anyone.

The Best Inn Keepers EVER......

by TripAdvisor Member kim3eb

Excellent location, Beautiful Inn, Nicest people and Amazing breakfast make this place the BEST in NH, maybe all of New England. Dick and Sally are the owners and they REALLY pay attention to detail. Everything you would need on a vacation is there. The best kept secret is the falls just a few minutes walk from the inn and you could spend all day there just relaxing and swimming on the rocks/falls, they go on forever, IT'S BEAUTIFUL.

There is a golf course right across the street. The inn is so quiet and peaceful with many places to sit outside in their yard. They have a huge hot tub right out in the back yard, a place for a fire at night outside and even a porch swing.

When you get up in the morning, they bring you a bowl of fresh cut up fruit, a warm bakery item (one day lemon poppy loaf and the other coffeecake) then they bring you an incredible hot meal (one day blueberry stuffed french toast and the next crustless something or other), THEY WERE BOTH SO GOOD. plus all the coffee/tea, juice and cereal you want. They have a computer in the front office you can use, TONS of stuff to read and plenty of ideas of things for you to do. I suggest eating at LIBBY's in Gorham. It's about a 20 min drive north but well WORTH IT. We also ate at Toasted Lab, Red Fox, The Stonehouse inn ALL GOOD. "As you like it" coffee shop is just down the street for sandwiches/wraps and salads. I highly suggest the COG railway up the side of Mt Washington, very exciting.

I can't forget about Henry and LULU (dog and cat) they are the best. Henry (dog) couldn't be any happier to see you and Lulu (cat) just hangs out with you.

It was only 2 nights but it was sad to go. Everything was perfect, it felt better than home. So many NICE things to say and so little space to put them, I could go on and on.

We already re-booked for the end of Sept for the leaf peeping and they are filling up fast. The rates are great too. YOU CAN'T GO WRONG with this place, it's the best.

Wonderful inn

What a B&B Should Be

Everything a B&B should be. Warm and inviting look (the verandah and view are incredible), attentive and caring hosts, excellent room and common areas, tremendous breakfasts, and an outstanding location.. Our first time in Jackson.............can't wait for our return visit.
