Travel Tips for Nashua

Take a few side trips. There...

by Alisonchilla

Take a few side trips. There are some things to see in Nashua. But not much. Take a drive to Milford to go to a real-live drive-in. Pick up The Telegraph ( http://www.nashuatelegraph.com/ ) to see which double-features are showing throughout the summer. The Wilton Town Hall theater occaionally plays arty flicks, which you won't find anywhere else close to Nashua. If you want fresh veggies, to go apple picking, or to pet goats, go to Wilson Farm in Hudson. If you are going to stay in Nashua, you might as well shop. Everything is tax free. Just stay away from the Pheasant Lane Mall around Xmas time. It's a zoo.

Packing List

by Alisonchilla

Hat, scarf, mittens and other warm gear for winter.
Bug spray, shorts, and t-shirts for the spring and summer. Always have a sweatshirt handy, as New England weather is unpredictable, and it can get chilly even in summer. Pretty much any american style clothing goes. Might get stared at if you walk around with cowboy boots and hat, though.

Where to play and see soccer

by Alisonchilla

If you can't stand to be away from the pitch, you should find one of these locations to catch a game or kick the ball around:

General parks
Roby Park
Greeley Park

Soccer fields at:
Mines Falls Park (5 or 6 fields)
Nashua High North
Nashua High South
Bishop Guertin High School
Fairgrounds Elementary School (more just down the road from there as well) 5 or 6 fields between the two

Kids leagues

Phantoms - Pro league

Closest MLS team
New England Revolution (plays in Foxboro)

Mine Falls Park

by Ewingjr98

Mine Falls Park is a large park located in the city limits. It has miles of trails along the river and canal. Parking can be found off of exits 5 and 6 on Route 3. When I lived in Nashua I loved to run here on Saturday and Sunday. A loop around the entire park is about 6 miles, but there are a total of 20 miles of trails, allowing you to vary your route every time you run.

The park was dedicated in 1969 and has 235 acres of gently rolling hills and relatively flat trails. The park also has 16 acres of sports facilities containing 6 soccer fields, a lighted baseball field, and 7 general purpose athletic fields.

The canal itself was built in 1825 to provide hydro power to the downtown Nashua textile mills. The western end of the park is anchored by the gatehouse that was built in 1886. The downtown end of the park to the east is accessible via Pine Street which takes you to the cove, a large pond being preserved in it natural, undisturbed state for wildlife.

Additionally, a small hydroelectric dam was constructed near the gatehouse in 1984. This produces 10 million kilowatt hours of clean power per year for the city. Unfortunately, this dam and its pump house have spoiled some of the best views of the falls.
