Historic House by Rixie
This is the restored home of John Langdon, a signer of the American Declaration of Independence and a governor of New Hampshire. The house was built in 1785, and George Washington was once a guest here.I didn't have time to take a tour, but I hung over the gate and walked around the outside. There's a beautiful rose garden and grape arbor in the back that, according to the website, are rented for weddings and other events. It's on my list for a return visit.
Open Friday through Sunday, June 1 - October 15. Tours on the hour from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission: $6, Historic New England members and Portsmouth residents free.
