Day Trip to NYC
by califtraveler
OK fellow travelers, put on your thinking caps. I'm spending several days in Atlantic City in mid April. I would like to take a couple of day trips to New York while in your city but haven't had any luck web searching. Seems Greyhound can get me from NYC to AC but not back. ??? Acestrain only operates on weekends and I need mid-week. Would appreciate fastest travel time (no helicopter jokes please) with early as possible departure and early/mid evening arrival back in Atlantic City. I'm a senior traveling alone so budget has some consideration. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Don't casino buses make almost hourly runs back and forth? Chinatown buses? How about megabus (which I've taken to Boston)? It's gotta be 2 hours each way, when you factor in I-95 traffic. It will be a short, and tiring, day trip, to say the least.

Greyhound and NJ Transit buses make several trips to NYC and back (almost every hour I think). I believe this is the most convenient and most reasonable way to get to NYC and back. Look at the Greyhound and NJ transit websites for specific schedules and good luck! :)

Are you willing to substitute Philly for NYC? If so, the train has a discount rate for seniors(over 62) it is about $4 each way from AC to Philly 30th Street Station.

The Amtrak has quick trains called "Acela" that go to various cities and make less frequent stops than the commuter rails.
That said, these also only have business and first class seats, so you'll be spending more for the more efficient ride...

I'm too late for your mid-April trip to NYC but in the future you can take NJ Transit from AC (the terminal is across the street and 1 block north from Caesar's Casino.) The bus takes 2.5 hours and goes to Port Authority in Manhattan. Come home the same way from Port Authority.
Travel Tips for Atlantic City
Atlantic City Air Show
by Lady7
For the 3rd year in a row, Atlantic City hosts a free air show on the beach. The center location to see all is at Historic Boardwalk Hall, right next to Trump Plaza.
This is fast becoming a favorite of tourists & locals alike & it's free for the watching. Just go out to the beach, sit down & enjoy! The beach is free also, no beach tag needed, you may bring coolers & chairs or rent any of the numerous cabanas in the beach bars or free standing. It occures every year at the end of August, so feel free to plan your trip then & come see me too! The tang of salt in the air, the crashing of the waves against the shore, the call of gulls winging overhead along with the shouts of excited children & the lifeguards whistle are what set this air show apart from all others.

walk the boardwalk. This is America's first boardwalk. The famous wooden walkway offers 4 1/2 miles to stroll and sightsee. No matter where you go, the Atlantic Ocean is always in sight. Walking on the boardwalk and beach with Mike.
Tipping the Dealers
by Gypsystravels
When you are playing at the poker tables it is customary to tip the dealer if you have just won a hand. Ferni plays poker and depending on the amount he has just won in the hand, he will tip with any denomination in chip form, but usually it is either $1 - $5.
Tipping is discretionary and depends on the individual.
Beautiful stain glass

When Terry & I made our way out of the parking garage under the old convention center, at the top of the escalator this is what we saw. It just glowed, I had to take a picture of it, I couldn't help myself!
Rollerblading along the Boardwalk
by penumbra
Although skate boarding is frowned upon, rollerblading seems to be acceptable along the Boardwalk. I’m not convinced that this is a good idea though. These two made quite a lot of noise skating along the Boardwalk because the wooden boards are uneven and have small gaps between them. It couldn’t have been a very pleasant ride.
