Cheap, but nice, hotels near Harrah's?
by BriMcFly88
The economic crisis has me bargain shopping. I got a group (8?) of people looking to go to Harrah's on a saturday. What hotels around Harrah's or a short cab ride away are good and clean and will do the trick? I'm trying not to empty the wallet as much as possible!!
Thanks so much in advance!

I've gotten good deals at the Sheraton Convention Center. We got a room for two for about $85 a night one weekend in May. It's a couple blocks off the main strip but has free parking and is a very nice hotel. Harrah's is off the strip as well, and this hotel is a cab ride, but not a long one. There are a lot of inexpensive hotels on Route 30 (White Horse Pike) in Absecon -- one after the other. From Route 30 in Absecon, it is only a short drive to Harah's or any of the other casinos. During the week, the rooms are less expensive than on the weekends. Also, the rooms are generally more expensive in the summer than other seasons.
Travel Tips for Atlantic City
Atlamtic City visitors Center
by tpangelinan
Stop into the Atlantic City Expressway Welcome Center on your way to Atlantic City. It's located on the Atlantic City expressway just before you reach the city. The people are very friendly and helpful. They gave us some really good coupons for meals and fun, 1 was worth $20.00 for lunch, buy one get one buffet at the Trump Plaza, which was really good food and service. So stop by and check it out for your discounts. Atlantic City Expressway Welcome Center Farley Plaza Rest Area

Gambling
by Gypsystravels
I always give this advice to anyone that is coming to any casino, pace yourself. If you plan to do some gambling, either the slots or the tables, set limits to how much to plan to spend and stick to it. You will be a happier player and most likely walk away a winner.
It is easy to get caught up in the excitement and loose more money than you wanted, so take the amount of cash you decide to play and don't hit the ATM's...you will be thankful that you didn't. More people loose than win and so many come to AC to "hit it big" and walk out loosing their week or month's salary, or worse, their whole savings.
Playing Poker
by penumbra
Poker has increased in popularity because of the recent increase in televised tournaments. To accommodate the influx of new players, casinos have built or renovated their poker rooms. Beware when sitting down to a game that some of these players have a lot of experience and may have friends in the game. Of course you can bring your friends along as well. Poker is available at the following casinos:
Downbeach:
Tropicana – 43 tables,
Midtown:
Caesars – 24 tables,
Wild Wild West – 10 tables,
Bally’s – 20 tables,
Sands – 14 tables.
Uptown:
Resort – 9 tables,
Trump Taj Mahal – 50 tables,
Showboat – 25 tables.
Marina:
Harrahs – 16 tables,
Borgata – 40 tables.

King Neptune and the Garden Basin
by tpangelinan
The statue of King Neptune is the entrence to the Historic Gardner's Basin, a waterfront park and marina. This a wonderful area to explore, you can take tour boats, go to the aquarium and many other fun things in this part of town, very pretty and clean.
Tigers, festivals, etc...
by OCNJBritt
Spend an hour or two at Gardner's Basin in AC. This open space is often host to music and food festivals and when teh circus is in town, visit the animals who are temporarily lodged here and are frighteningly accesible to onlookers.
Gardner's Basin is at the northern end of AC, along the water and is also home to a small but cute aquarium and museum.
