More about Merv Griffin's Resorts

Loved it all!!

by TripAdvisor Member Travity

Just returned from Resorts Atlantic City for 4 days October 3-6, 2004, with mom and best friend. Had a WONDERFUL time despite a labor strike going on throughout Atlantic City. I read the other reviews about Resorts and can't relate at all. The hotel was absolutely beautiful - Renezvous Tower - new, designer decorated rooms, HUGE marble bathrooms, security, nice staff, loose slots. What more do people want? Staff was nice. Food wasn't gourmet, but as good as any chain restaurant, but it was comped, so who cares?

I travel alot throughout the country, and this was one of the nicest hotels I've been to anywhere.
I enjoyed the location - next to Trump Taj Mahal and Showboat, and a nice walk down the boardwalk. I felt safe in spite of the strikers.
Parking garage was nice with security and close to elevators. Casino easy to maneuver and find friends.

Apparently Ocean Tower isn't nearly as nice. But stay in Rendezvous Tower. You won't be disappointed.

One of the better places to gamble, and now stay

by TripAdvisor Member ffxstation

My wife and myself have been to just about every casino in Atlantic City and we agree that Resorts is one of our favorite places to go gamble and now, to stay, in the new tower. The rooms are some of the nicest in AC. We now prefer Resorts for gambling b/c of the service and environment. We like the fact that it is not overly crowded like some of the other casinos and offers limits from $10 (even on weekends) up to high limit gaming located on a seperate floor in the tower. The crowd is a good mix of young and old. The comps are very generous compared to other properties in AC.

Enjoyed the hotel/gambling but trying to get a drink at slots terrible

by A TripAdvisor Member

I took advantage of a free room comp I received from LVHilton. Stayed on a Saturday night. Drive from Va. wasn't too bad, if you could do away with any accidents on I95.
We stayed in the Rendevous Tower, room was very nice. My husband played the slots and I played video poker. Trying to get a soda or beer took forever if you could even find a server. We both tip well, but this didn't seem to help get them to return and check to see if we needed another drink. And what's with the beers in the tiny, tiny cups??? We go to Vegas atleast 3 times a year and I thought we'd try Atlantic City since it was closer and maybe would go more often. How come they don't have any bars in the Resorts except for Tuxedo's? It would be easy to get your own drink if you were having problems getting service.
Other than the service on the casino floor I thought the hotel/casino was great.
Also, I liked security checking for room keys before you entered the elevator for your room. How the comp systems works isn't as great as Vegas but maybe it will be o.k. in the long run. We'll see. Do plan on returning.

Pool Closed 5pm

by TripAdvisor Member AnneBC

Chose this hotel because of the pool. ( spring break ) Check in was 4pm, room was not ready until 4:40.( Maid was still cleaning) Went to the pool and was told it was only opened until 5pm. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT !!! Kids could not swim! Night time plans were ruined .

Atlantic City, New Jersey

"Historic Atlantic City & The Boardwalk"

We have found that Atlantic City is more than just the gambling
capital of the east coast. There is alot of history also here ....

History

Atlantic City has always been primarily a resort town. Its location in
South Jersey, hugging the Atlantic Ocean between marshlands and
islands, presented itself as prime real estate for developers.

The city was incorporated in 1854, the same year in which train service
began, linking this remote parcel of land with the more populated,
urban centers of New York City and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Atlantic City became a popular beach destination because of its
proximity to Philadelphia.

In 1870 the first boardwalk was built along a portion of the beach to
help hotel owners keep sand out of their lobbies. The idea caught
on, and the boardwalk was expanded and modified several times
in the following years. Today, it is several miles long and sixty feet
wide, reinforced with steel and concrete.

"Gambling Mecca Of The East Coast"

Although a small city, it had been plagued
with many large city problems, especially
poverty and crime.

The neighborhood known as the "inlet" was
particularly impoverished. In an effort at revitalizing
the city, New Jersey voters in 1976 approved casino
gambling for the city of Atlantic City.

Resorts International became the first legal casino
in the eastern United States when it opened its doord
to the public on May 26, 1978.

Other casinos were soon added along the boardwalk
and later in the marina district for a total of twelve today.

The introduction of gambling did not, however, quickly
eliminate many of the urban problems that plagued
Atlantic City. Many have argued that it only served to
magnify those problems, as evidenced in the stark
contrast between tourism-intensive areas and the
adjacent impoverished working-class neighborhoods.

In addition, Atlantic City has played second-fiddle to
Las Vegas, Nevada as a gambling mecca in the
United States. On July 3, 2003, Atlantic City's newest
casino, The Borgata, opened with much success.

Can I bring my infant with me into a casino?

Can I bring my infant with me into a casino?

Re: Can I bring my infant with me into a casino?

by Agraichen

Can't say about NJ laws but Las Vegas is pretty strict about underage people near the tables or slots. You can "walk through" the casinos but you can't play with anyone underage. Now i've not seen infants in casinos but I would expect the same rule would apply.

Re: Can I bring my infant with me into a casino?

by Odinnthor

Well plenty of drinking and second hand smoke......d:o/

No, you would not take an infant into the casino. Not only would other patrons look at you like you had lost your mind, but if you sit down to play you will be asked to leave. Nothing would irk casino players more than a crying child.

That said, many of the hotels will supply a licenced babysitter service.

Re: Can I bring my infant with me into a casino?

by Sevsa

As mentioned you can walk through it but can't stop in the playing area or actually play with an infant or anyone under 21.

Re: Can I bring my infant with me into a casino?

by ter1413

Yes, if the infant is over 21!
Not being harsh.....but....Why would you want to and why would another patron want to sit next to you/an infant who could potentially cry/need to be changed/distract you and thus the game that you are playing?
