Philly/AC Airport commute

by irv103

Does anyone know of an inexpensive air taxi service from PHL to Atlantic City Airport for a day trip?

No, but I know of an inexpensive train service: www.njtransit.com. The trip is only about 1.5 hours on the train. You can drive it in an hour. It doesn't make much sense to fly.

I fully agree with the above

If you start from downtown Philly and travel between the casinos of Atlantic City, you'll spend the same amount of time whether you take the train or a plane. You'll just spend a LOT less money and experience less hassle if you take the train.

I need to be at the Airport at 2:30 for a meeting and the train gets to Egg Harbor stop a long time before that. I believe Egg Harbor is the closest stop and that still leaves me with a cab ride. If it is warm and sunny I will ride my motorcycle from Philly.

Travel Tips for Atlantic City

Earn some rewards

by Lhenne1

Many of the casinos offer rewards programs. The more you gamble (the more money you spend) the more comps they offer you. Comps can include free meals, shows, and even nights in the hotels. The programs are free to join and only take a couple minutes to sign up. It's definitely worth it if you're going to be visiting these places frequently.

We signed up for the Total Rewards Program, which is good at Caesars, Bally's, Harrah, Showboat, etc. It's also good to be used at these casinos (and their sister casinos) in Vegas, Biloxi or wherever the company owns gambling properties.

Relax and Enjoy a Massage

by penumbra

After a hard day at the tables or even just walking up and down the Boardwalk, who wouldn’t want a massage? There are several establishments, although they seem to be clustered at the south end (Downbeach) end of the Boardwalk. On offer are Aqua Massage, Chinese Massage, Back and Foot, Acupressure and Tuina.

If you are a smoker, you will be in heaven. If you are a non-smoker, beware! Everywhere you go, you can smoke.
We were in heaven, as the whole of Canada is slowly becoming non-smoking everywhere (even our Casino in Montreal), and we are smokers. The ventalation is quite good in the casinos, so there is not that big of a cloud of smoke.

Playing Slot Machines

by penumbra

Slot machines are a gambling game that anyone can understand. Insert your money, pull a handle, the wheels spin and if you win the machine will let you know. No pressure. No strategy. Just play the game.

In recent years, the mechanical machine has given way to the electronic. Three wheels have given way to four or five wheels. Video poker, black jack and keno are available. Penny games are making a come back but only because you can play up to 50 games per spin. Machines are available in various denominations 1, 5, 10, 25 cent, $1, $5, $25.

If you’re going to play, do yourself a favor and get yourself a slot club player’s card. It won’t increase your odds of winning, but it may provide a small return on your “investment”.

Fun in the Sun

by penumbra

With all of the casinos in Atlantic City, it’s easy to forget that the city became an attraction because of its beaches. The beach is closed from 10pm until 10am. There is no picnicking or alcoholic beverages, no dogs, no ball or Frisbee throwing, no skateboards (?) no open fires and no loud music allowed. I think it’s alright if you lie quietly in the sun, but check before hand. There are change rooms and washrooms available at intervals along the Boardwalk. There is usually a shower at the base of the steps top the Boardwalk to wash off sand. Chairs, lounges, umbrellas and cabañas are available for rent but there is a limited supply which is used up quickly during the weekend. Refreshments are available at the Beach Bars or along the Boardwalk itself.
