by VeronicaG We've taken a tour of The Main Stay and enjoyed tea here. It seems that tea is not served to the public anymore, which is too bad because they were very nice. The Main Stay was the first B&B to open in Cape May once the Renaissance came to the area. It was designed by Philadelphia Architect Stephen Decatur Button in 1872 as a private gambling club. When gambling was declared illegal, the club closed. A family style breakfast is served, as well as afternoon tea for guests. The summer season prices $180-$320 (weekends and holidays, also). The Cottage and Officer's Quarters are additional accommodations. UPDATE:July 2009 We spent a wonderful weekend at this Cape May B&B. Although the Southern Mansion is more expensive than some, we indulged ourselves since it was only for two nights. This romantic B&B is often chosen as a honeymoon destination. I've added additional pictures from our recent visit.... pic#2 our guest room pic #3 the sitting room/parlor pic #4 breakfast area The Southern Mansion is one of the most elegant B&B's in Cape May. Tours are offered a certain times on the weekends. This B&B was featured on television and is quite posh. A full breakfast is served each morning and you can select just what you want from neat, linen covered tables: sweet rolls, muffins, fruits and juices. The main entree changes each day, where coffee and tea are served. The mansion is situated on 1 l/2 acres and is only a five minute walk to the beach or shopping area. This lovely B&B is a special place and worth your consideration. Stroll the landscaped gardens or visit the pretty parlor. Famed architect, Samuel Sloan, designed this antebellum Victorian home for George Allen, a Philadelphia Industrialist in 1863.

by VeronicaG This was once a summer home built in 1903 by Humphrey Hughes II, son of one of the original landowners of Cape May, Captain Humphrey Hughes who arrived in 1692. The home remained in family hands until the death of Dr. Harold Hughes in l980. The summer season price is $195-$350 per night. A family style breakfast is served--in nice weather one can enjoy it on the veranda or glass enclosed sun porch. Afternoon tea provides sweets and savories for guests. by VeronicaG The name defines this Inn--for its guest rooms feature brass beds in each of them. A full gourmet breakfast is served. Afternoon refreshments are enjoyed on the veranda when the weather permits. We toured The Brass Bed one weekend and found it to be very nice. The owners placed period antiques throughout the house; interesting collectibles accented the rooms. It is located near shopping, restaurants and within a few blocks of the beach. A virtual tour is available on The Brass Bed's website. Summer rentals from June 1-September 15 are $125-175; suite $225.

by VeronicaG The Abbey bed and breakfast is open for guests April-Mid December. Rentals are from $85-$250 and include a full breakfast. Tours of the Abbey are conducted Tues.,Thurs.and Sat. at 4 p.m. in the summer season, $8 for adults and $5 for children under 12. It is located one block from the beach and near shopping, restaurants and beautiful Columbia Ave., where it keeps company with many lovely B&B's! When one tours a B&B in Cape May, it gives you an insight into the Victorian age and its customs. Take the opportunity to schedule a tour when visiting--you won't regret it.
