From Summer Home Into B&B

by written on November 8, 2005

This was once a summer home built in 1903 by Humphrey Hughes II, son of one of the original landowners of Cape May, Captain Humphrey Hughes who arrived in 1692. The home remained in family hands until the death of Dr. Harold Hughes in l980.

The summer season price is $195-$350 per night. A family style breakfast is served--in nice weather one can enjoy it on the veranda or glass enclosed sun porch. Afternoon tea provides sweets and savories for guests. One of the suites is given the name "The Doctor's Suite" in honor of Dr. Hughes who had a medical office on the garden level.

Directions: Garden State Parkway S. to the end and turns into Lafayette. At the 2nd lt. turn left onto Ocean Street. 3 blocks to corner of Ocean/Columbia on left.
