Striper Fever

by SURFIN7TH

Cape May has some of the best fishing anywhere. In the fall and winter the fish of choice is the Striped Bass. There are many boats going out of the marinas of Cape May. I usually fish on the "Miss Chris." This day was too crowded on that boat so I walked next door and fished on the Sea Hunt. The Sea Hunt is a little smaller boat with no cabin but the captain and mate are excellent and there are less anglers and better odds for fish. Make sure you pay the extra $1 or $2 to get in the pool. It makes the day more fun. Biggest fish wins the pot. It usually costs about $30 for 6-8 hours of fishing. Most boats sail between 7am and 9am. Its good to get to the boat early to secure a space. Call ahead on week days or days w/ bad weather. Rental Rods are available but its better to bring your own if you have it. I usually bring a spinning rod for jigging bucktails or diamond jigs and a conventional rod and reel with 25-30 lb test. On this rod I use a fish finder rig with a 3' flourocarbin leader and a #2 or #3 hook. Most of the striper fishing on these boats is done with eels. The heavier line helps get the fish to the boat quicker without getting tangled with the other fishermen.

At the farthest western point in Cape May is Sunset Beach. Here you can see the remains of the SS Atlantus. It was an experimental concrete ship that was built in WWI. It sank off Cape May in 1926 and remains there today. Sunset beach is true to its name. The su sets over the water here similarly to Key West.

Elegant Dining in Cape May

by VeronicaG about The Washington Inn

The Washington Inn is an elegant 1840's Plantation style home. Summer dining can be enjoyed from the patio while cozy fireside seating greets you in the cooler seasons. We invited my father and his wife to join us at The Washington Inn on the occasion of their visit to New Jersey. It is a special place to come with special people. Entrees like Panseared Filet Mignon or Tournedos of Pork Diane are prepared carefully to your taste.

Hours vary seasonally, so call for more information and reservations. We would recommend The Washington Inn for dinner anytime to make your dining a memorable event! It's been featured on tv for its sumptuous meals and lovely decor!

Unique

by evilprebil about The Copper Fish

Unique restaurant with old boat seats as the seating, which is very interesting and matches the decor. Yet, I'm a thin woman and I did not feel like I fit well in the seats. The food was very good but I would complain that the portions were light for the ingredients used and the price. It is a BYO so the price is somewhat offset. Service was average considering we were the only diners at the early time we went, but food was prompt. It is in a terrible location right next to the only road into and out of Cape May. Roasted peppers with smoked mozzerella on top. It had a leek champagne saffron sauce which was tasty even though I could not discern any saffron in the mix.
