Travel Tips for Jersey City

Lower East Side

by nyceagle1633

From Bowery to the FDR and Canal Street north to Houston Street is the Lower East Side. Just google that and you can get good websites. My friend, she has boutique www.tahirboutique.com on Orchard Street. Also, next to her, Is Gus Pickles, a MUST. Plenty of boutiques, cool hip lounges and dive bars and cafes. Pianos on Ludlow has good live music and the Bowery Ballroom rocks. So forget Times Square or anything north of 34th Street after dark, this is where it's at.

Good chinese bakery = V.I.P. Cafe & Bakery 80-82 Clinton Street 212-375-1368.

A City with a fabulous view

by Callavetta

"The most famous Jersey Girl of all"

Jersey City is just a short distance across the Hudson River from Manhattan. It's long shoreline has hotels and offices and parks and ferry piers, all proving wonderful views of the City. At the southern end of the city is Liberty State Park. It's a huge open space park with amazing views, picnic and barbeque areas, walking trails, and a ferry pier to take you to Liberty Island and/or Ellis Island. Entrance is free and parking was plentiful on the cold but sunny Saturday in March that we were there.

"From the shoreline of the park"

I think I could swim it! Anyone got a wetsuit?

Jersey City - Liberty State Park

by jeffjun

Jersey City developed from an early seventeenth century Dutch settlement to one of New Jersey's most diverse communities with aggressive commercial investment along its Hudson River waterfront. From its origins in one of the oldest settlements in New Jersey--the village of Bergen--Jersey City today ranks among the state's most industrialized and populous cities, serving as an example of urban development and change into the twenty-first century

A great view lost something

"Never thought"

That this two towers would disapear that way. When we first visited the US we skipped those towers thinking we visit them another time.... We did a year later, but i wonder how many people thought lets visit those towers on our next travel and watch them collapse on tv ?

This is the inside of the terminal where you can buy tickets to the ferry which will bring you to Ellis Island and Libery Island. The building is in it's original state and gives a good feeling about the history.

Jersey City, At the shadow of Manhattan

by Easty

I have visited Liberty State Park twice now since September 11. It is amazing how empty the Manhattan skyline still looks. This is as close as you can get to Ground Zero without being in Lower Manhattan. There is such a numbing awe about this. I wish I went to this park before the Twin Towers collapsed. I did not overcome my fear of driving in urban areas before that. Last night (April 13), I was fortunate to see the tribute of lights for the last time. It was an amazing view being so close. Unfortunately, my pictures came out poorly, or I would have shared it.
