sleeping on newark airport?
by travellingrose
Flight due to arrive at 21.30 from London and have to collect baggage... then have to check in for Houston flight at 3.00am next morning. Getting a hotel doesn't seem worth it. Hope to be able to catch some sleep on airport but will be on pre.departure area, which looks to have little facilities.
Any advice on quieter spots/ comfy seats/ warm and no draughts... with a chance of a bit of shuteye? Any advice much appreciated.

regardless of which airport, there is always a area to put a 3 x 8 sheet down and make camp. Go to your gate and see if there is a area around a wall and a seat and put your lugguage around you. It is not cold out here yet as we are having a indian summer, It is going to be 85F tomorrow, Bring ear plugs with you. Cheers Tommy x

It's a bit cooler in the NY/NJ area. Tomorrow will be appr 70. I once spent appr 8hrs overnight at the airport in HK. Find a nice quiet location, pull a few chairs together(if possible) and catch some zzzz's! You will hav no problems.

If you just want to catch a few ZZZ's try the Interfaith Chapel which is pre-security, between gates C70-99 and C101-115. Just crash in a corner and so long as you don't snore you'll be fine.

Travel Tips for Newark
The New York Minute
by flagite
There's a new shopping center adjacent to Linden Airport which seems to be the only new thing in miles. There's a Home Depot, Staples, Shop Rite Grocery, Wal-Mart and K-Mart nearby. You'll quickly learn that New Yorkers and Jerseyites have their minutes and seconds backwards: A New York minute is the moment between the time a light turns green and the time the motorist behind you honks his horn. It's probably less than one second. A New York second is the period of time you wait for a sales clerk to get back to you after they have said, "I'll be with you in a second."
GET OUT OF NEWARK, GO...
by TATABOOM
GET OUT OF NEWARK, GO SOMEWHERE THAT WILL PUT MILES ON THE VEHICLE YOU ARE IN, SEVERAL MILES. NEWARK IS A DINGY, DRUG INFESTED, CRIME RIDDEN CITY. I'M SURE THAT IT HAS IT GOOD PARTS, BUT SO FAR, I HAVE YET TO FIND THEM. HOWEVER DISAPPOINTING MY DESCRIPTION OF NEWARK MAY SOUND, THERE ARE SOME THINGS ABOUT NEWARK THAT I FIND INTERESTING, THE PEOPLE. OTHER PARTS OF NEW JERSEY HAVE MUCH TO OFFER IN THE WAY OF TOURISM, AND THERE ARE PLENTY OF OTHER PARTS.
This isn't exactly a cultural...
by NewarkDevil
This isn't exactly a cultural tip, but if you're in Newark and you need to find an address, remember that any address name involving a Street named after presidents other than Washington (Adams, Jefferson, Jackson, Madison et. al.) or lettered Avenues (Avenue A, B, et. al.) is bound to be in the Ironbound. East Numbered Avenues will be just north of downtown in North Newark. All other numbered Avenues and Streets are either in the West Ward (that area beyond MLK Boulevard) or in Roseville (on the other side of Branch Brook Park from North Newark). Weequahic in the South doesn't have any particularly distinguishing street naming pattern to speak of nor does Downtown.
Wildlife on Harrison bridge
by theo1006
Just strolling we came to the Passaic River bank and the bridge in Bridge Street to Harrison. The bridge is of the rotating type. On the wooden central structure we saw this mother duck with her eggs. No better nesting place along the river? Maybe the city should provide some.
Krug's Tavern on Wilson Ave....
by NewarkDevil
Krug's Tavern on Wilson Ave. serves the best all around food in the neighborhood. Especially their One (1) pound hamburger! This is a meal in itself. They have specials everyday of the week, and one of their best sellers is fresh ham. Prices are good and all their food is excellent. Anyone visiting the area should stop by and try out Down Necks own.
