Newark airport change of planes

by genebeans

I may be booking Alitalia arriving in Newark and then have roughly 2 hours to change planes to a Continental flight to get me homw. How difficult is it in Newark to change flight carriers as we will most likely have to bring our luggage to the new counter to connect-Thanks-Gene

Quite straightforward. And pretty fast. Did that one month ago.
You will arrive in Terminal B, pass immigration, pick up your luggage, pass through customs and then drop your luggage at the drop-off point.
Next go to the monorail which will take you to Terminal C, most likely your CO flight will leave from there.
In terminal C pass through security and go to your gate if (most probably) you don't have your boarding pass yet, or go shopping.
Look at the CO website and look for airport information.
Ask Alitalia to through-label your luggage to your final destination. Maybe they can give you your boarding pass for the CO flight already also as they are, still, in the same alliance (SkyTeam).

Newark's pretty easy to transfer in and two hours is plenty of time. There's a train that's pretty efficient, or you can just walk it.
But, if your flights are on the same itinerary (i.e. - you booked through Expedia, etc. but got different airlines) then you can often get them to transfer the bags for you when you originally check in. I did this recently though (at Newark and with Continental, actually) and my bags were lost for a day, so use at your own risk.

Newark Tip

I was there in 1989 for about 10 hours, and my most amusing incident happened 5 minutes ago. For the last 12 years, I thought Newark was in New York. I've only just found out its in New Jersey. Woohoo!

New Jersey Nets

The 2002 Eastern Conference Champions shocked the league with their astonishing rise to prominence in 2001-2002 but have continued at the top of the Eastern Conference since and look to play competitive basketball for years to come. They play in the Continental Airlines Arena in the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford ten minutes northeast of Newark at the moment, but are planning on building an arena to house both them and the Devils in downtown on Market Street and McCarter Highway.

Restaurant close to NJPAC. It offers all you can eat brazilian/portuguese barbecue Not only you get tired of the variety of meats the waiters will keep bringing if you wish, but before this part of the meal starts the restaurant offers the most extensive all you can eat buffet I have ever seen!! Amazing!

If you're more in the mood for something light and trendy, check out Newark's preemptive response to Starbucks (which just recently invaded), the Euphoria Cafe. Great for a sandwich and some gourmet coffee while also providing live entertainment at night in the form of poetry readings and light jazz, this is definitely the most Bohemian restaurant in the area.
