Located in Downtown Albuquerque and within walking distance to movie theaters, restaurants, art galleries, night clubs, comedy clubs, the Convention Center and the beautiful KIMO Theater, this modestly priced hotel gets our recommendation. Built in 1939 by owner/designer Conrad Hilton, La Po, as locals call it, was the site of his honeymoon. It is deservedly on the National Registry of HIstoric Places. From the beautiful Moorish brass and mosaic fountain in the lobby to its handcarved corbels, handmade furniture and Mexican tile floors, this is a one of a kind hotel. The 114 rooms also have handcarved furniture and the bigger rooms at the top of the 10 story hotel have large windows looking out across the city with a view of our breathtaking Sandia Mountains. Amenities include access to a health facility, a restaurant and a popular lobby bar that features live music. | | | | Albuquerque Central KOA: Big, friendly RV campground | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
We live only 2 miles away, so my relatives who travel in big RVs stay at the KOA and love it. The staff treats everyone like family, they have a pool and a big store/gift shop. I recommend it to anyone coming thru the Southwest on Route 66.
Nice pool, a putting green, you can fill propane, picnic tables, some shade trees (rare and valuable here in the desert). Hotels.com came through for us, and we got our card keys. The view across to the mountains where the tram is located is substantial enough to take an upper floor facing east. We had a third floor room with a good view of the moutains, as well as our car in the parking lot below. Access was good both by elevator and stairs. A continental breakfast came in the morning, so we were able to eat a bit and then hit the road early.
The building is relatively new, and the rooms immaculate. The great view for the low prices is worth it, and we had good access to old town in a matter of minutes. Follow mapquest, and go up the hill on university until you find the hotel.
