Yale Bl

by traveltonm

I'll be visiting to watch UNM Volleyball, and am staying near the airport. Is it safe to walk the 1.5 miles up Yale to Central to the vb venue at Johnson Center?

I would say that it is a little dicey. You could check the bus schedules, you might find something convenient. A taxi would be better.

Re: Yale Bl

During the day I would say no problem at all. The night is probably okay but the bus is a good idea. I looked it up. It is Route 50. The map and schedule are at http://www.cabq.gov/transit/documents/pdfs/mar08_50wkd.pdf .

Travel Tips for Albuquerque

Currency

by txartistgirl

Just had to post my own two cents after seeing someone post that you need to bring cash because the ALB airport does not have a currency exchanger.....uuuhhh yeah. Albuquerque NM is part of the United States and uses good old American money just like any other state in the US....you also do not need a passport to go to NM, and we do speak English. I am a native New Mexican and have been asked these questions NUMEROUS times and just cant believe how ignorant people can be. So if you dont want to *** off the locals just remember what you should have been taught in elementary school...New Mexico IS part of the United States and has been since January 6th 1912.

Street Art

by Bwana_Brown

In the wide open spaces surrounding the Civic Plaza, the city of Albuquerque encouraged artists to display their works in public along the sidewalks. There were a number of impressive displays, but this one outside the Hyatt Regency caught my eye. It was titled 'Sidewalk Society', by Glenna Goodacre and it won a bronze in the 1991 Public Arts Program. I was impressed by how much these displays added to the overall atmosphere of this part of the city.

Albuquerque borders a large...

by Gypsy_King

Albuquerque borders a large mountain on the east side of town called Sandia Crest. It's very beautiful as the sun rises from the other side each morning. I never got tired of looking at it. This picture was taken from the top of Sandia Crest.

High speed wireless on the bus!!

by RblWthACoz

Rapid Ride is a newer service that was started in 2004. It's route covers, Nob Hill, Downtown, Old Town, International Market, the State Fairgrounds and much more. That isn't all though. Each bus is equipped with high speed wireless internet! There are children's books on board as well for kids to read and newspapers are available for sale too. All that and the fare is still $1. Also if you are planning a long night out on the weekend, Rapid Ride operates until 3 am every Friday and Saturday night from Memorial Day Weekend until Labor Day Weekend.

Catch a Flying Star

by danmike about Downtown Flying Star Cafe

Located in a beautifully renovated 40's style office building, the Downtown Flying Star is one of the most colorful, whimsical coffee house/restaurants you will ever see.

With huge murals, spaceship like light fixtures and multi-colored tile walls, this unique 2-story restaurant has balcony seating as well as tables on the sidewalk below.

The breakfast menu features burritos of all sorts, egg dishes galore and even a lox breakfast made from organic, veggie fed, farm raised salmon. Lunch and dinner menus consist of New Mexican dishes, pasta bowls, hot and cold sandwiches, burgers, salads, soups and breakfast is served all day.

Flying Star also serves beer and wine and has a huge selection of deserts displayed in glass cases at the front of the restaurant.

Take you laptops - they have free wireless internet! Get the Fiesta Breakfast Sandwiche - it's heavenly.
