Get a National Park Service Passport
by Hopkid
These are really fun and spark interest in the National Park Service system. The brainchild of a marketing genius, the purchaser can get a stamp from each of the NPS sites he or she visits. The collection of these stamps, similar to postal cancellation postmarks (which include the name of the park and the date visited) become fun to collect. It's a great way to get the kids (of all ages!) excited about going to different parks, monuments, seashores, etc. that are operated by the NPS.
The passport itself is reasonably priced and the stamps are, of course, free. Each NPS facility has a stamp available at the visitor's center. If you don't see it just ask the ranger on duty. Some (e.g., Mt. Rushmore, Cape Hatteras Lighthouse) have special stamps with a depiction of the area/monument. Great fun!
You can obtain an NPS passport at any park Visitor's Center or online at the National Park Service Store.
In ABQ you can get a stamp at Petroglyph National Monument. Further afield you can also visit Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument, Bandelier National Monument, El Malpais National Monument, and El Morro National Monument.
Bird Man of Albuquerque
by AlbuqRay
Clyde is one of the icons of Albuquerque. I have seen him many times riding his bicycle with his birds on the handle bars. He now also has a cute little dog in a basket in the back. I finally saw him stopped in the parking lot at the Home Depot. By good fortune, I also had my camera in the car. I introduced myself and asked if I could take a picture. He said sure. Turns out he came to Albuquerque in 1949 and worked at the same Lab where I work now. He retired 10 years ago.

Tremendous & delicious portions
by apbeaches about Bandido Hideout Restaurant
Great location on Central Ave. opposite the New Mexico U. campus. Friendly wait staff, extensive menu and, great people watching. We used our Entertainment card and had a free entree. I ordered a traditional Mexican dish for 6.95 The portion was incredible & it was wonderful. My husband's beef nacho's were enough for four. The drinks were bottomless and the desserts looked incredible - but who could eat it all?
Great BBQ
by bobkw2000 about Smokehouse
The Smokehouse is kind of a "hole-in-the-wall" restaurant, and not much to look at from the outside, but the food is great and reasonably priced! The Polish sausage meal with a side of outstanding potato salad and pinto beans. That is the only meal I've had there, but I'll definitely be going back. The spicy pinto beans sounded good, but I missed them on the menu when I ordered!
