stables, trails for horses

by nvholst

Traveling to Albuquerque for long-term job assignment, looking for a good stable--any suggestions which part of town offers good horse accomodations plus lots of nice trails?

Horses are mainly to found along Rio Grande blvd in the NW section of abq. There are a few stables there but since i'm not a horse person I can't be more helpful. There are riding trails there along the Rio Grande river.

Are you bringing your own critter? or are you looking for someplace to play and ride? Most of my co workers board outside of the city limits, but there are several rental places closer in .... email me and perhaps I can get you more info :)

Have fun while here!

Bringing own horse, want to board him where I know he'll be well-taken care of and with access to lots of trails, fields, etc. Location not as important as facility. Must be well-managed and offer ability to ride year round (i.e., indoor arena) w/o trailering elsewhere.

Give me few days to check into this for you :) Working a lot this week, so hopefully will get info from my co workers pretty quickly!!!

Change in plans! Long-term job assignment canceled . . . thanks for your feedback on stables. Now husband talking about both of us retiring to NM sooner rather than later, so w/in two years will be moving out your way. This fall will spend 2 weeks checking out suburbs of Albuquerque and will also spend some time in Las Cruces. We own a mustang (rounded up on the Oregon range) and will probably get another horse once we relocate. My new search: reasonable housing (LOL) close to fiesta field as husband wants our trip to overlap Balloon Fiesta 05.

Bernalillo, NM is just north of ABQ on the I-25 ....... rural in places, suburban in others ... worth checking out for horse property .... as is Corrales and Alameda (other 'burbs w/ horse zoning) ..... Go south of ABQ into Las Lunas and Belen for the cheapest horsey properties that I know of.

Balloon fiesta begins early this year .... Sept 30th is the start date. Check out Bernalillo and Corrales for B&Bs that are close to the fiesta, yet still have the flavor of the areas you might settle in yourselves.

Good luck!

Be advised that all lodging in abq is booked solid during the balloon fiesta. Make your reservations ASAP, now is not too early !!

Travel Tips for Albuquerque

Record Snow in Albuquerque on 29 Dec 06

by AlbuqRay

We had a record snow in Albuquerque on 29 Dec 06, 11.3 inches (28.7 cm). By the next day it was up to 14" and still snowing. All the 10" snow from the week before was was not even melted yet. I made snow ice cream. Sure was yummy.

Mormon Temple

by shdw100

For those of you who are interested in temples, the Mormon church has a temple located in Albuquerque. It is one of more than 120 temples worldwide that the church has built. The exterior of the temple is Deseret Rose precast concrete, with the base being Texas pearl granite. Only those members who are worthy are allowed to enter, but you are free to walk and enjoy the beautiful landscaped grounds which are free to the public

Piercing anyone?

by kymbanm about Snob Hill Studio

I don't know anyone who received their piercings at this shop .... but I love their sign! So here it is :)

From a glance through the window, they seem to have a large jewelry selection, and are clean so .... make up your own mind.

If you are looking to get a piercing while in town, I still reccomend Evolution located about a mile further down Central just outside of the Nob Hill district :)

Where the Craic Is Mighty

by HispanicYob about Two Fools Tavern

A local haunt in the Nob Hill area, Two Fools Tavern is near the UNM campus. The ambience, as you can tell from my photos, is warm and relaxed. A genuine Irish feel. As it should, since it's the most unique in Albuquerque and a taste of Ireland in the Southwest. If you're into pub atmospheres, it's a good place to meet up with friends or family. They have a selection of traditional pub food, which you can find a detailed menu on the website I've provided in this tip. You'll see a lot of locals here just chilling with company. You might even find a few Lobos fans doing the chant here (our college team), as I did! The pub offers both bar seating and cozy little nooks and tables, to enjoy with a friend or cozy up with a lover. I definitely suggest this pub when you're visiting. It's also worth mentioning that Downtown Albuquerque is about a 10 minute drive away (not counting traffic). So far, I've only tried one thing, the Killarney Grilled Chicken. An amazing sandwich it is. It's pretty big so you might even need a fork and knife to eat it. Sometimes they include homemade mashed potatoes with it.

Good Food and Great Prices

by AlbuqRay about Lucky Boy

Lucky Boy is a combo Chinese restaurant and hamburger joint. It is a friendly place that has a long tradition and excellent reviews. Lucky Boy has tasty food at some of the lowest prices you can find. The combination plates (e.g. sweet and sour pork or chicken with an egg roll and fried rice) are just $3.30! An egg fu young burger with an order of onion cakes is $4.75 including tax. BTW, you have not lived until you have had a Lucky Boy egg fu young burger! The green chile cheese burgers are good also. You order and pick up your food at the counter.
