ABQ snowman extraordinaire!
by kymbanm
This week (March, 2006) we had our first snow in over a year! All excited at this gift from the 'gods', some locals scrapped ALL the snow off the park grounds and made this fairly typical Albuquerque snowman. Isn't he glorious? With bits of dead grass all over, and dead branches for limbs he typlifies winter here at home ....... dry ..... cold ........ and dry.
Being in a decade-long drought means every bit of moisture is a wonderful gift from the sky and worthy of celebration ... even if you have to scrape it up in order to pay proper homage :)
Addendum: New Year's Week 2007.
We just had our best/worst snow in over 50 years! Being so unused to this quantity of snow, and being a holiday, our residents took over the streets making various snow sculptures. Some were PG, some were PG-13, and a few were even X-rated :) Surprisingly, despite being in the Catholic Bible Belt, even the more pagan inspired images were left alone to melt as nature intended ... enjoy!
Creative benches
by engeluna
There were several of these tile benches around the city. I was facinated at the artwork and detail involved in them. Plus, in the rain, the color really glowed.
This pic was taken by the bus stop on 2nd Street.
Unique beers brewed in house & ostrich burgers!
by moirholj about Kelly's Brewery
COMING SOON... The quesidilias were really good...nice and super cheesy. For dinner we split the Ostrich Burger, because...well... how often do you get to order that at the local brew pub. Ostrich was tasted pretty burger-y (i.e. like cow) for being ostrich. Definatly something to try just so you can say you did!
Review of the BEERS coming soon!
A Wonderful Local Place Just North of Albuquerque
by LynninNM about The Range in Bernalillo, NM
How can I even begin to describe this place? Great true local color and food? Yes! A true taste of the eclectic (and wonderful) foods we locals enjoy here? Yes! Great views? Yes, of the lovely little artsy town of Bernalillo and the Sandia Mountains in the distance. The food is great, the service quick and friendly. The prices are reasonable and the selection is wonderful. On many evenings there are live musicians in the bar area. Their music can be heard throughout the restaurant and is almost always very enjoyable, and never too loud. They don't take reservations, but give them your name and head to one of the 3 connected shops to spend a few minutes browsing the great items for sale there. Breakfast, lunch or dinner , you'll never regret your trip to The Range. For breakfast, the Huevos Rancheros or Breakfast Burritos are wonderful. The orange juice is freshly squeezed and great! For lunch or dinner, try the Blue Corn Beef Enchiladas with Red (chile, that is) . . .my all time favorite, for a real taste of delicious local food. There really is no bad entree at The Range, though. In the evenings, they always have several gourmet offerings that vary daily and they're also usually very good. Their desserts are made on site and are great. Try the Death by Lemon or one of their chocolate specialties.
