fairly new, or at least newly renovated, hotel. Close to Carlsbad Caverns. Nice and clean rooms, good tv reception considering all the mountains around, nice breakfast bar, coffee pot in the room. Clean bathrooms. towels were a little threadbare, but very clean. Clean pool in back with lounging area. nice views.

    Comfort Inn in Espanola

I had not made any prior arrangements for accommodations because I did not know where or how far I was driving in New Mexico on my first day there. After an extremely early departure from eastern Canada, followed by my drive from Albuquerque up the Jemez River valley and through Los Alamos, I was ready to pack it in (not to mention the 3-hour time zone change). I quite often stay at the reasonably priced Comfort Inn chain and this establishment was no disappointment. The rate was $89 including taxes.

The air conditioning worked great, I was able to get on the internet with my laptop to beat down the backlog and I also enjoyed a great boxing match on their HBO channel (Mayorga defeated Forrest). I was contented as I finally drifted off!

  • The are a couple of great places to stay in Taos, but I feel the only way to really feel Taos's charm is to stay in a bed and breakfast. Case Grande Guest Ranch is truly Taos. Case Grande has wonderful and gracious hosts, magnificant views(espacailly from the hot tub)in a beautiful custom made home.
    $115-$185 Well,
worth it! No children, No Pets.

GREAT VIEWS! The Case Grande also has horse back riding and is next to the Hacienda de los Torres.

  • If you like staying right in the midst of it all, I recommend the Taos Inn – very close to the plaza and Bent Street shops, galleries and many restaurants. The inn is known as the “living room of Taos” and has music many evenings in the lounge. While the atmosphere is wonderful and visited by locals as well as tourists, you may enjoy dining elsewhere.
Prices vary depending on room style and season.

Historic rooms are smallish but quaint. Bar and lounge area with indoor and outdoor areas. The nachos are very popular. This is not a 123 channel TV type place or at least not when I stayed there (smile).

I am sorry that I can't help with lodging. As I said, I was there for a conference and we stayed at a University in Santa Fe.

    Don Gaspar Compound Inn

Gorgeous private rooms decorated in southwest/Sonoran style. Most rooms open onto a garden courtyard with fountain and beautiful flowers. Just like being in 'Old Mexico.' Great breakfasts in the courtyard, too. Small and quiet, but near all the sites.

  • about 60-70 US dollars

An unasuming historic hotel. Kind of looks like a Vegas hotel with the flashing lights in the front. Inside the lobby is like you walked into a movie set for a western ranch. Huge wooden staircase in the lobby with pictures of the movie stars who stayed there. In the days of the spaghetti westerns, this was the place to be. Each room has a name of a star on the door.
