Sun Screen
If you come to Las Cruces anywhere between May and August, be sure to bring sun screen. The temperatures of the summer months are usually in the 80's and 90's. However it is not uncommon for the temperature to reach 100 and beyond.

The Alameda Historic District is one or two such districts in downtown Las Cruces. Time did not permit me to fully explore either district; but I hope to do so, and expand this tip, in the near future.
Although it really doesn’t look like it is, Las Cruces is actually the second largest city in New Mexico.
It is the home of the New Mexico State University and boasts of a wonderful backdrop of the Organ Mountains. The New Mexico Farm and Ranch heritage Museum chronicles the 3000 year old history of NM, including life at the Old Mesilla which revolves around a plaza which has no changed much since the old days. The church that you find at the Plaza has recently been honored (Nov 2008) by being given a yellow and orange umbrella made-to-order from Belgium by the Vatican to signify “basilica” status. On Highway 28, take in the scenery and lots of chili and pecan fields.
Old Town Mesilla
150 years ago, this was a major trade center for anyone travelling between San Antonio and the west coast, including the Butterfield Stagecoach. Billy the Kid actually stood trial for murder in a Mesilla courtroom!
The city is a very picturesque replica of a mountain Mexican ville.
La ciudad es una replica picturesca de una ciudad Mexicana de las montanas.
Note it is not a desert since there are mountains in the background.
Most of the residents are of Mexican descent but unfortunately do not speak spanigh, it is such a waste of language heritage :(
