The Takoja Retreat Center is constructed of two domes connected by a building with a kitchen, bathroom and solar-heated hallway. There is a loft in each dome sleeping three and each with a bathroom. The downstairs west dome is a dorm with several futons. The downstairs east dome has the sitting area and dining area, along with an upright piano. The floors downstairs are all brick. The heating is solar-assisted with many windows on the south side; however, there are also wood-burning stoves for any really cold weather. The brick patio is perfect for Fall weather. You are surrounded by wild flowers and shaded by a bearing apple tree. Don't miss the hummingbird feeders on the north side.
Takoja is virtually a botanical garden and museum of southwestern art. Everywhere you look there is an interesting artifact. Much of the work is by Misha's and Kymba's family. The views out the windows are spectacular with the Sangre de Christo Mountains to the east and south, and NM sunsets to the west.

Takoja is a private retreat center used in the past for spiritual journeys. Because of this, the center is remote and a bit rustic. Built in a traditional motif with a twist, the retreat center is comprised of 2-two story domes joined by a one story area that contains one of the bathrooms, pantry, kitchen and the main entrance. Both domes have 3 bed lofts and 3/4 baths. The lower floor of one dome is a dormatory with additional futons for lounging or sleep. The other dome has a living area filled with plants, and the diningroom. Privacy is not really possible within the 'domes' except in the bathroom! Of course with three bathrooms this is a huge plus :) Takoja is about a 30-45 minute drive from Taos, less than that from several natural hot springs and only a 15 minute drive from Wild River Recreation area :) Lots and lots to do! Owned by Dr Judith Sauceda, reservations are mandatory. It might be possible to join in on a planned retreat, but contacting the owner could clarify the status of the property at the time you may wish to rent. You might have to try both numbers to reach Dr Sauceda, but the number with the 303 area code is where you will usually find her in the winter.

If one of our apples happened to fall to the ground, we'd find tiny little teethmarks by morning. A sacred circle, sweatlodge and lots of wandering trails leave guests with lots to do even without internet access, television or radio :) REALLY!
