roswell to tucson ?

by ivanchristie

Hi,
Just wanted to know how far and time taken between roswell to tucson ? Is there a sort of a greyhound bus going to tucson in the morning and one getting back to roswell by late evening ? Thanks. ... Ivan

That trip is a long one, over 11 hours. It is 531 miles between the two cities. I don't believe they could make a round trip in one day. See the website: www.greyhound.com

The drive itself is like 8 hours: about 3.5 to Las Cruces and another 4 or so to Roswell. It really depends on how fast you drive and which route you take. Going through Ruidoso is the fastest route but 82 to Artesia has less traffic. There's also a truck bypass around Alamogordo that maps tend to miss, but will save you some time.
Greyhound doesn't connect these cities directly though. You'd likely have to go through El Paso first and wait for a transfer, so it would be much, much longer. Definitely not doable in a day round-trip.

Travel Tips for Roswell

Aliens are fun to party with and all.....

by caffeine_induced78

problem is - the aliens that came to Roswell probably died in the crash. 'Tis better to party with the hybridz that live next door to 'ya. Roswell offers so much more than alien stuff - take a little time to dig deeper. It has some great art museums and historical museums, and the New Mexico Military Institute. It's also a great jumping off point to explore Carlsbad Caverns. Walking into the Roswell Art Museum and being completely blown away by the caliber of talent shown. Walking into another room and seeing the actual rockets that Robert Goddard launched.

Visit the UFO Research Museum....

by samalex

Visit the UFO Research Museum. Great history of the town and UFO research. Also, the Chamber of Commerce has some awesome stuff on the town. It's in alittle building downtown (about 3-4 blocks from the UFO museum). The 4th of July celebration and fireworks can't be beat. At the old air force base, they have great music, fireworks, singers, Veterans speak and tell stories, parashute jumpers, and in 2001 had a great fireworks show. It's work going on the 4th just for this.

Roswell UFO Crash Site

by leafmcgowan

Travel down Highway 285 North to get a glimpse of the fields where the famous UFO crash took place. Of course, you won't see much UFO related but the sign. Turn onto the dirt road called "Bitter Root Road". But you'll see lots of wildlife ... my day trip gave me photo moments of antelope, jackrabbits, (no jackalopes!), roadrunners, and cows ...

Valley of the Fires

by kala6487

If you are driving back to Albuquerque from Roswell, take Hwy 380 West and you will drive through the Valley of the Fires outside of Carrizozo. There is a small recreation area you can stop at and take a short nature hike.

The valley was filled with lava many thousand years ago. It was not from a volcano, but rather vents that were in the valley floor. Once the lava flow stopped and cooled it covered a huge area of the valley with black rock. Over the years plants and animals have flourished here and you can see that if you take the nature walk.

Native inhabitants include lizards, bats, deer, coyotes, tarantulas and of course snakes. We only saw the lizards as it was a hot day.

The actual UFO crash...

by Head_Alien

The actual UFO crash site!!!!!!! Unless you know where this is (and are a little brave) you'll never see this. Go 13 miles north of town on Hwy 285 and look on the west side of the road for a white billboard that says 'UFO Tours' and a phone number. The number is disconnected - but that's the road to the crash site. Turn there and go about 2 miles in until you see a concrete monument. THAT'S IT!!! The road is in very bad shape and there's nothing to see once you get there, but you can say you were there.
