Greatest in Taos

I just recently stayed at the Taos Inn and had an amazing time. Staff was great, the rooms were cozy and had authentic southwestern furinture. I like this hotel because it really represents Taos life and Spainsih culture. There's a great bar (Adobe Bar) and restaurant (Doc Martins). I highly recommend this hotel to anybody coming to Taos.
Unique Quality: Free parking, great views, minutes away from Taos Publeo and Taos Plaza, close to ski resorts

Haven't stayed here but plan to next time.
Unique Quality: We were scared off because the most of the rooms have swamp (evaporative) coolers instead of A/C. We forgot how dry it is and that swamp coolers really work up here.
Directions: Very near the plaza (2 minute walk)

If you like staying right in...

If you like staying right in the midst of it all, I recommend the Taos Inn – very close to the plaza and Bent Street shops, galleries and many restaurants. The inn is known as the “living room of Taos” and has music many evenings in the lounge. While the atmosphere is wonderful and visited by locals as well as tourists, you may enjoy dining elsewhere.
Prices vary depending on room style and season. Historic rooms are smallish but quaint. Bar and lounge area with indoor and outdoor areas. The nachos are very popular. This is not a 123 channel TV type place or at least not when I stayed there (smile).

The plaza has been an integral part of Taos for centuries. While it is now filled with tourist shops from T shirts to art to chocolate, it is still quite magical. If you are staying at the Taos Inn, get up really early, grab a cup of BEAN coffee from the lobby and wander on over to the plaza as the sun rises. If you try, you can almost hear the voices of the past. The quietness of the mesa and the energy of the mountains will stay with you ... if you let them.

Drinks after ski?

I fear that I already know the answer to this question, but is there any cool places to grab a drink in Taos after skiing? Any bands? Beer with atmosphere?

you can take a look at www.goski.com sometimes in the reviews places are mentioned as a good place to go for a beer and dance and to party.

There are a number of places to have a beer in the Town of Taos.
1. Start at Eskes Brew Pub. About half a block South of historic Taos Plaza. Some days with entertainment. Some food.
2. Alley Cantina off the NW corner of the Plaza. More food. Regular entertainment.
3. A more upscale downtown drinking place is The Adobe Bar at the Taos Inn often with entertainment.
Many other choices. Email me or post if you need more ideas or other recommendations (I can direct you to the best in Taos).
Don't forget, Taos Casino for the gamblers. Angel Fire or Sipapu for the snowboarders. Great hiking later in the year. White water rafting after April. Memorial Weekend motorcycle rally. Taos Music Fest in June. Taos Pueblo Pow Wow and Taos Fiesta in July.
