Amtrak on time record

by ramblingrose

Hello,
This September I am planning on taking the Amtrak from Albany to NYC. Where I live Amtrak is consistanly 1,2 or more hours late (lots of freight traffic around here, Is it the same in Albany or can I count on a fairly on time schedule?
Thanks

Amtrak is a lot more reliable in the Northeast. I take the NE Corridor trains in and out of Penn Station (NY) very frequently, and the trains to and from Albany out of Penn seem to be mostly on time.

Thank you. You info is very helpful for making my plans.

September should be fine - I've only seen late trains in extreme winter conditions during big snow storms or when there is ice.

Would like to hear how your ride on Amtrak was.

The Amtrak ride was great! We got to the station early and it was a breeze to change our tickets to an earlier train. The train left right on time and what a beautiful ride. For the most part the tracks follow the Hudson River-for the best views of the river try to sit on the right hand side of the train (as you face the front of the train car-direction Albany to New York). Penn Station in New York was a bit hectic-just remember you have to go up the stairs to exit.

Something about a car. I really can't go into things with this one. But lets say if you own a Ford Probe you should have custom locks installed. The keys to your car with open others and vice versa.

Corning Tower Observation Deck

by apbeaches

We passed through security and took an elevator to the Corning Tower Observation Deck located on the 42nd floor; the tallest building in New York State outside of New York City. The building dominates the Albany skyline with its glass, marble and angular forms.

We had good views of Albany, the Plaza, and surrounding areas. Also visible are the Hudson River Valley, the Port of Albany, large portions of the city and its historic buildings, the foothills of the Adirondacks, the Catskills, and the Berkshires of western Massachusetts.

Albany Police Department: "ever vigilant"
The police badge and the city flag both carry the city seal. It is a Native American and a farmer signifying coorperation between the two. There is a ship to indicate the importance of the Hudson River in the city development.
