Empire State Plaze , Albany , New York State
by RACCOON1
If you are in the vicinity of Albany and need a driving break you might stop in at Albany and take a look at " Empire State Plaza" .
On a saturady or sunday the plaza is completely deserted and the state capital buildings are quite imposing .
Time Needed : 1/2 hour
Many fine eating...

Many fine eating establishments in Albany - but the best casual, inexpensive, healthy food is found at Bombers Burritos.
The free thinking artsy folk eat here. Bring your friends, get comfortable and grub! Any burrito from Bombers is a great burrito - I eat the chicken in a sun-dried tomato tortilla. Yum!! And try the sweet potato fries while you're there.
City Hall

When standing between the State Capital Building and the columns of the NY State Education building, all you have to do is turn sideways and you can also view the beautiful design of the Albany City Hall. This Romanesque-style of building also highlights one of the characteristics of its designer, Henry H. Richardson. Built between 1880-1883, it features light granite stones off-set with darker stones used for the trim. He was also one of the designers of the State Capital Building located on the same square! There appeared to be lots to do and see here in the heart of the city, but my time was running out and I had to clear out of Dodge!
Albany - Capital City...

I was in Albany just a few hours so could not get a complete impression about it.
I though the city was pretty slow moving but people were friendly when I talked to them.
This picture shows the State Capital, provably the landmark of the city.
This is the building of the NY State University, downtown campus. They have a much bigger campus in a little north of the city center.
State Street was pretty interesting. This is an area where I would like to live if I move to Albany. Pretty European looking townhouses that made the area pretty cozy.
