More info about the Old Stone House

by rdeere

Sir or Madam,
Very interesting, but I don't know (1) where it is, (2) its hours of operation, or (3) its cost. Please e-mail this information to me. Thanks.

Did you google "Old Stone House Brooklyn"? That will bring you right to the website and give you all the info you requested.
By the way, there are more interesting historic houses in NYC, in IMHO. For example Morris-Jumel house, and a few others I have listed on my NYC pages.

Yes- Google about Stone House. I have info about Brooklyn, and the bridge, on my New York page. Brooklyn is full of interesting old buildings and houses. Lovely area to wander around.

Travel Tips for Brooklyn

99 cents...more or less

by TempNomad

You get what you pay for, but sometimes that's what you want! Tissues? Keychains? Allen Wrench? Band-Aids? Or are you just feeling bored and want to spend a dollar? (Usually $1.08.) Go to the local 99cent store. They are all over the place and will have just about anything you want or need. It may not be in the color you want, or carry the brand name you want, but it will do short-term or in a pinch.

Sweet Melissa's: Tea Time in Cobble Hill

by TempNomad

You must take time to relax! The perfect place is a cozy space with delicious, freshly made pastries and hot or cold tea, coffee, other lovely liquids...

You can either imagine yourself as a character from Austen, sitting in the main pillow-strewn area, and sipping tea. Alternatively, you can retire to the garden (weather permitting) to admire the greenery, soak in some air and sun, and sip your drink.

The macaroons are amazing...and a full tea with sandwiches and cakes is served in the afternoon.

It's located at 276 Court Street. Take the F/G train to Carroll Street.

Williamsburg views

by TempNomad

Graffitti in Williamsburg is some of the most colorful. Besides the typical tags, there are some beautiful murals, memorial art, and keep your eyes peeled for the aliens!

the BEST Italian restaurant in NY

by jglsongs about Locanda Vini e Olii

Locanda Vini e Olii is not the easiest place to get to...it's in an up and coming Brooklyn neighborhood called Clinton Hill. Still, Locanda Vini e Olii could easily be called the best and most authentic Italian restaurant in New York.

Upon entering, the staff welcomes you in Italian. The decor is old world eclectic in a space that used to be a pharmacy, so there's a whole wall of glass cabinets filled with old apothecary jars. The tables are rustic wood and the colors are muted.

If NYC didn't have a non-smoking law, and if there were tons of German tourists, you'd swear you just stepped off Santa Croce in Florence!

(The restaurant's only sign is the old 'Lewis Drug Store' so you won't see the name on a sign.) From the bread (as close to authentic Tuscan bread this side of the Ponte Vecchio) to the espresso, it's all wonderful. The salads are amazing, primi (pastas) are great and the secondi (meats, seafood) are unbelievable, but save some room for dessert.

Chocolate-Chocolate, I love you!

by cat-alunya about Jacques Torres

Umm..have you ever taken a bite of a cloud? Have you ever rested so deeply that you thought your eyes might never open again..that your last breathe may slip out so sweetly and quietly you'd just let it go without a fight?
Probably not- but you'll know what I mean when you have abite of a Jacques Torres Chocolate or cup of his frothy, Classic chocolatey hot cocoa and his "Wicked" Hot Chocolate that tingles the tongue with it's perfect blend of allspice, cinnamon, ground sweet ancho chili peppers, and smoked ground chipolte chili peppers.
You cannot miss this place. And good news for those of you not willing to travel to B'klyn- he just opened a Manhattan warehouse/shop...but it's not as cool. Wicked Hot Chocolate and a bite of everything on the side
