Crossing the border

by rauchc

I plan on crossing into Buffalo on New Years Day from Canada for the Winter Classic game. Does anyone have an idea how long it will take crossing the border? I'm worried that since it's a holiday it may take longer than it normally would.

Hi.. Depending on which bridge you intend to cross your time could vary greatly. Lately, it seems that the Peace Bridge or Rainbow Bridge would be your best choice. Lewiston Queenston seems to always back up.

You can probably figure on anywhere from 15 mins to 1.5 hours, especially if many from Canada are coming down for the game.

Best bet is to leave early.

Travel Tips for Buffalo

The people in Buffalo are very...

The people in Buffalo are very friendly, so if you have a question just stop and ask some one. If they do not have the answer, they will stop some one else and ask them. We may not be a wealth of knowledge, but we can always find the answer. Buffalo is a big city with a small town attitude. Chances are you know someone who knows the person you are talking to. When ever you go some where outside of Buffalo you usually find someone who is from there anyway, so it is hard to miss Buffalo

It Doesn't Get Any Fresher Than This!

"Arugula is best!" "Kale is better!" " not!" " so!" Ahh, how the sounds of the Farmer's Market resonate in the organic air. I think Carol (hands on hips) has this one in the bag. Every Saturday from June 'til November the Forever Elmwood Farmer's market draws area neighbors together for everything from organic bok choy to homemade sausage. Held on Bidwell Parkway at Elmwood Avenue, the market brings the urban community together like a small town.

Packing List

by jaybird199

If you come, pack like you would normally do. Now despite their cold and snowy winters, it actually isn't that bad. Everyone knows that Buffalo and New York State doesn't have the best weather. But it shouldn't make a difference in your decision to visit and enjoy yourself in Buffalo. When it snows, crews are accustomed to clearing sidewalks, and roads and parking lots. Not only do they do an EXCELLENT job,but roads are cleared QUICKLY, even when large amounts of snow fall(which can be frequent in the early months of winter) Snow isn't really an inconvenience in Buffalo like some would have you believe. So its not like you will be trudging through 10 feet of snow. You will want a nice, warm jacket, perhaps gloves and a hat. Boots can be nice, but I wouldn't say they are necessary. Summers are usually pleasant with occassional heat waves. But never has 100*F been recorded in Buffalo. Heat waves consist of upper 80's, low 90's. General highs are in the upper 70's and low 80's. Like most of the eastern 2/3 of the USA in summer, Buffalo too can get awfully humid. Other wise it is like Toronto's weather. Warm and pleasant in summer. The spring can have brief spells of heat, otherwise just rainy and brisk. Highs in the upper 40's to upper 50's. Fall is the best time of year when its brisk. Highs are in the low 60's to low 70's and the days are generally clear. Nights can get chilly-near freezing-this time of year. This city has all the amenities a large city should have. This is America...there is a convenience store around every corner!! HAHA You can buy any photo equipment that you need. The cheapest places are usually a Wal-mart of target. There is a wal-mart plaza on Walden Ave. on the corner of Harlem RD.

University of Buffalo.... a study in architecture

by davecallahan

If you have a free hour and a roll of film (or 27 shots left on a digital camera), then take the time to visit the campuses of the University of Buffalo. It has a nice diversity of architecture in its buildings and the layout of its squares and open-areas.

The walk and exercise and free air will do you good too.

see the website below for more photos of the campuses.

I've fallen and can't get up!

by heitzenrater

This is a TRUE off the beaten path activity!!!!!

So here is the scoop. If you ever wanted to go sky diving here is your chance.
first things first. You took a class that was about a half hour long. It was mostly a video followed by simple instructions.
Next they suited you up. Lastly you jumped out of a plane!
The jump was a tandem jump meaning you are hooked to the instructor so there are no accidents.

On the way down i was able to see niagara falls. They also said that i might be able to see Toronto, but it's hard to look when your falling from 12,000 feet!

Tandem Prices
Group Size Price
1 $220 each
5-9 $210 each
10-19 $200 each
20-24 $190 each
25+ $180 each
10+ $220 each (and organizer jumps free!)
