Urbane Haven in the City's Center
by tpal
This is Hoyt Lake located in Delaware Park. This park along with many other parks and parkways make up our Olmsted Park System designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. Delaware Park which covers 350 acres in the center of the city, is the largest and in my opinion the most significant. My opinion may be colored by the fact that I live about two blocks from the lake. The two mile perimeter is one of my regular walking routes. The lake was the centerpiece of the 1901 Pan American Exposition. The building in the distance is Albright-Knox Art Gallery. The park is the summer venue for Shakespeare In The Park and free Sunday Jazz Festivals and the winter home for (surprise, surprise) Winterfest.
Buffalo Tip

My grandmother's house. Every Christmas I still come here for the traditional Polish celebration of Wigilia- Christmas Eve. We eat a dinner of Pierogie, Mushroom Soup and Fried Fish and then open presents under the massive tree- always a real tree chopped down in the pine forests of Western New York. The whole place just gives off a warm, family atmosphere that could not be duplicated anywhere else. Throw in the wafting smell of baked goods and Polish food, and this is one nice place to hole in for a week in December.
Buffalo is a fun-loving...

Buffalo is a fun-loving alcohol drinking city. It is home to the ULTIMATE comfort food-Buffalo Wings! These puppies are a city tradition and can be tasted at ANY local restaurants. The Buffalo Bills are an icon and 'the best team in the world', I reccomend you keep you comments to yourself about how they play!! Who knows what the rowdy Buffalonians would do! just kidding..:) They are a nice bunch.
Wide right!

Ok, we got that out before you could say it. The Buffalo Bills of the NFL provide the fans with all the excitement and disappoint they can handle. The Bills play their home games in Ralph Wilson Stadium, located in Orchard Park, a suburb of Buffalo.
Tickets aren't always easy to come by, as Buffalo loves its Bills.
Griffis Scupture Park

Griffis Sculpture Park is about a 45-minute drive south of Buffalo (just north of Ellicottville). This sculpture park was a favorite of ours as kids. The adults liked it too. The place is about 400 acres and has giant metal sculptures and figures all throughout the place, in plane sight, on trains, in the forests, in ponds etc. You can climb on a lot of the sculptures, and it really is nice to just walk around and relax. When we went, we'd rarely run into other people. They are there, but the place is so big, you're usually all alone to explore. The park is closed October 31 for the winter (though we always went in the summer, I bet it would be gorgeous when the leaves are turning). There is no cost to get in to the park, and this would make a great picnic spot as well as a hiking (fairly easy hike, but gorgeous) spot, or even some trail jogging. There are directions to the park at the website below.
