Is one day enough?
by FridgeMagnet
I have one day available to spend at Niagra Falls. Will I have enough time to visit both the American and Canadian side of the Falls?

How long is a piece of string? Some will say yes, others no.
I think it will be tight if you throw the Border crossing into the mix. I also find the Canadian side has better views and facilities so, if one side is the option, the Canadian side is the one

Oh right. Thanks. I will be in the US and will probably stay in Buffalo the first night. Should I just head from Buffalo to the Canadian side the next day then? Have to be back in Buffalo to catch a train to Chicago at around midnight!

That time line should give you the option of both. I would do the Canadian side first then head to the US side, time warranted. It is best not to be trying to cross the border anxious to catch a plane.

Ok. Thanks.

Yes one day is enough to see the Falls. You can even walk over the international bridge to save time of parking and finding a place to park. It would not be enough time to see the tourist attractions though as there are many on the Canadian side.
OK??
Travel Tips for Buffalo
checking it out

Now you can check out the weather in Buffalo while you are on your way there.
If it is winter time, don't bother looking because you know it has to be snowing.
The camera is on the northwest side of the city at 2303 Kenmore Avenue (Applied Tech School) right by the General Motors plant.
Buffalo Tip

To see the Bills play. This was my first NFL game, so far the best, Bills against the Dolphins. The stadium was sold out and the atmosphere electric, the winners would be top of the conference. I was thrilled to see Dan Marino play, but the Bills QB Doug Flutie stole the honours in a close game that the Bills just held out to win.
Just one thing though, the stadium is in Orchard Park, some way out of town and the traffic is incredible-- allow loads of time to get there.

Dyngus Day
by sissah
Buffalo has a pretty large Polish community, so naturally there's a big party fro Dyngus Day, the Monday after Easter. Basically, you go out and eat Polish food, dance the Polka, get switched with pussy willows and the girls get squirted with water from the boys (make your own joke here).
I've put the Polish Community Center's phone number below, and they should have a good list of what's going on in the area on the day.
BUffalo Sabres at the HSBC Marine Midland Arena.
by Bela_LUng
If you can catch an NHL game while in Buffalo you'll be heading to the great HSBC Marine Midland Arena. It's easy to get to and has tones of pay parking around it.
The arena inside is well built and clean. The view once inside the rink is fantastic and you'll have a great view of the game.
Tickets are relatively inexpensive and should be avaialble almost any time, except when the Toronto Maple Leafs are in town since all the fans in Toronto come down to see the game (ticket prices in Toronto are stupidly insanely high so since we can't see the Leafs in town, we go elsewhere to see them!)

Incredible Hulks!
by tpal
When I was in grade school I remember being taught that Buffalo was the "Number One" grain handling city in America. In fact, by then Buffalo's dominance as the nation's grain capital was already on the wane. The railroads had diminished the importance of the Erie Canal and soon the St. Lawrence Seaway Project would allow the grain to by-pass Buffalo altogether.
But what a time in must have been in its heyday. The port of Buffalo jammed with tall sailing ships, bringing grain from the mid-west to the western terminus of the Erie Canal. Then packet boats would transport the grain to all points east on the Canal. At Buffalo the grain would arrive quicker than it could leave, especially in the winter. The result was the design and construction of the "Grain Elevator". Magnificent concrete cylinders bundled together like a gigantic box of crayons. Today they are largely empty hulks but still amazing.
The photo here is of the last fully functioning grain elevator. It is located on the Buffalo Canal. This canal was once full of lake barges. Today we see a single grain ship several times a summer unloading grain to make cereal. Mostly, the canal is the home for a very well protected sailing marina. Times change!
