Beautiful Views

The Canadaigua Inn on the Lake is a very straight-forward place -- nothing elegant about its appearance outside, but very comfortable inside. We visited in the winter so were not able to really experience the full range of activities available. It is clearly a popular place for conferences and family vacations in the Finger Lakes region.

Unique Quality: The best feature is its proximity to the lake. The rooms, while well appointed, are pretty standard.

Canandaigua Lake Wine Trail

by davecallahan

There are three major spots on the road to these wine tasting stops on the Canadaigua Lake Wine Trail.

Finger Lakes Wine Center in Sonnenberg Gardens in Canandaigua, NY.
151 Charlotte Street, off route 332 (Main Street) north of route 5/20.
Here you'll find samples of wines from all over the Finger Lakes region and information about individual wineries, their history and their specialties. 10-15 wines are sampled between 11am and 4pm. There is a small gift shop where you can buy souveniers and wines.
http://www.fingerlakeswinecenter.com/

From there you travel back south on route 332 to route 32 (Bristol Street). Take Bristol Street west to route 21 and go south.

ArborHill Grapery in Bristol Springs north of Naples, NY.
6461 Route 64, just west of the intersection of route 21 with route 64.
Wine tasting here is from 11am to 5pm and takes place in the store area and the special tasting room in the back of the shop. You may want to buy some their specialty wines which are noted for their fruity flavors. They also sell homemade grape pies which are a local favorite.

Get back onto route 21 and continue south to Naples,NY.

Widmer's Wine Cellars are in the hills just west of route 21 in Naples.
If you can show proof of age over 21 and are still relatively sober by this time, then the tasting room host will let you in to sample 5 or 6 of their diverse wines. Usually one is dry and one is port and one is red and one is white and one is fruity. There is a checklist of things to comment about each sample and they take your comments seriously.
The gift shop here is one of the better ones on the wine trails and includes everything having to do with wines, drinking or parties as well as souveniers related to the Finger Lakes.

"Canandaigua Lake"

Not far from Rochester are the Finger Lakes. Canandaigua Lake is the closest. A beautiful lake to go sailing, boating or just spend the day along the pier. There is also a public beach for swimming if you are not fortunate to own a cottage along the shore. Another attraction is Sonnenburg Gardens near by. Many nice restaurants or just near by hots or hamburgers.

To enjoy the beautiful lake and its fun. Take a closer look at this foto. After uploading it I see a vision of a bird behind it in the water. It does not look like the ducks reflection. What do you think. (spooky)

Canandaigua, NY.... Lake, Wine country

by davecallahan

My paternal relatives are from Canandaigua. They live in Shortsville and downtown Canandaigua. Canandaigua was settled and made into a township shortly after the American Revolution. There are many old homes in the area that reflect the different architectures of the 18th and 19th centuries.

The town is very busy for a small town. There is a major marina to the south of town. Two major roads(used for people heading to and from wine-country) converge just north of the marina.

The best part of the city's history (as far as I am concerned) was the now-gone Roseland Park. To this day, I cannot drive by the new picnic-playground area they have constructed without thinking of the great roller coaster and bumping cars and cotton candy that used to be there.

Now the area is part of the Finger Lakes wine trail and has replaced quiet two lane highways with 6-lane media-separated thoroughfares. But the heart of the city is still old buildings and narrow streets reminiscent of bygone days (even if the traffic nowadays is so thick you can walk across the street on the car tops without touching the pavement).

an informative website about Canandaigua is:

official websites for Canandaigua are:

There are about 11000 people in the city; 8000 of them in the town

wikipedia info:
11000 people, 4800 homes, 2700 families. 96% caucasian of Italian-German heritage. household income is $38000

ZIPCODE 14424 is Canandaigua, the county seat in Ontario County

Home Sweet Home

"Alittle Taste of Home"

Canandaigua, NY is a little slice of Norman Rockwell America, small enough to have that small-town feel but big enough to have more than one stop-light and plenty of things to do. We're within an easy day's trip of Toronto, NYC, Boston and within a 30 minutes drive is Rochester, NY. We have wine, apples, gorgeous hills and are hailed as the most beautiful of the Finger Lakes. What more could you want?
