More about The Kaaterskill

Catskill Mountains and Kaaterskill Falls

by kazander

Once upon a time, the Catskills were a hot vacation destination. Remember "Dirty Dancing" ? Think that sort of place. It's not really like that so much anymore. There are still a few remaining resorts, most of them get busy in the winter during ski season, but in summer, they are sad and empty. Summer is still a wonderful time here though. There are many hiking trails and beautiful "hidden" spots, like the gorgeous Kaaterskill Falls. At 260 feet, Kaaterskill Falls is New York State's highest waterfall. You can find the hiking trail to these falls just off Rt 23A near Tannersville. It really is breathtaking.

Fantastic Falafel Fiesta

by kazander about Moon Light Cafe

In early June we were on our way up the New York Thruway to Kaaterskill Falls, we were feeling a bit hungry so we popped into New Paltz for some lunch. Unbenknownst to us, it was the day of the Gay Pride parade so there was lots of hubbub in the streets. Luckily we found a place to park before the parade started and after wandering mainstreet for a little while, we came upon the Moon Light cafe. When we walked in we weren't sure if we were actually going to stay. The place is really not much to look at, feels almost like a 7-11. We plunked ourselves down in the booth right up by the front window (great people watching spot) and hoped for the best. We were not disappointed, the food was fantastic! I had an Honest tea and the "Falafel Fiesta" which consisted of a salad with feta cheese, hummus and pita triangles and of course falafel. mmmm delicious! Lou got a root beer and the Mediterranean combo, which was falafel, pitas, hummus, an eggplant something or other and a salad.(there might have been something else I don't recall) It was a very enjoyable meal!

"Visiting Peters Family In Catskill, NY"

We are very fortunate to have traveled to the gorgeous village of Catskill many times.
It's a small village at the base of the Catskill Mountains.
The views are incredible all within the Catskill Region and around the surrounding area.
