More about Hope Lake Lodge & Indoor Waterpark
very well rounded
we rented a loft, brought teenagers and 7yr old. learn to ski was great bargain and great deal. water park was fantastic for us all. bring cook ware for kitchenette. shuttle to ski hill quick and easy. terrain parks ok. ski mountain is excellent. overall great 3 day weekend for us. Main resturante at hope lake lodge was kinda weak but not a deal breaker at all. we will do again next winter for sure !
The Hope Lake Lodge & indoor waterpark is a must! With small children, we went primarily for the waterpark - and it was more than we could have asked for. The arcade is also great fun for the kids and there were board games set up in the lobby, to enjoy. Unfortunately, the Sat. evening entertainment for the little ones didn't happen, as there weren't enough participants.
Additionally, we received several spa treatments and were thrilled with the services and the kind personnel. The rooms were beautiful and cozy- including a full kitchenette, flat screen TV, balcony, and very comfy bed.
We will definitely return and highly recommend this resort!
Close But Not Quite There
We stayed just one evening collectively celebrating family birthdays. To be fair we were a large group occupying 2 double suites and 2 single suites. Large groups are always a challenge to hotel staff. That combined with the recent start up created a few kinks that need to be worked out.
Everybody understands that problems arise...it's how they are responded to that makes or breaks good customer service. Our 1st attempt to straighten out the room assignments was met with defensive indifference and no satisfaction. The 2nd attempt by another person in our party was met with some enthusiasm and some empathy and the situation was resolved quickly. That mix of great and polite customer service with poor and indifferent service was a recurring theme the whole weekend. The valet staff was tops. Kudos to the housekeeping and concierge staffs. The front desk and water park staff was 50/50. See below for the restaurant staff.
The rooms were exceptional in terms of cleanliness, space, design and finishes. However there were some construction problems that need attending to sooner than later. The room we stayed in had a cool breeze flowing through the living room window frames. There was a constant whistling from the fireplace on or off (it was windy) Another in our party party stuffed a damp towel under the door to fend off the draft coming from under it. By morning the towel was frozen stiff. Everyone complained about how cold the bedrooms were. I believe part of the problem lies in the not-quite-clear instructions for the heating system. Everyone knows a snow flake means AC and fan blades means fan. Does a dot inside a circle mean heat? At one point the heat from the fireplace caused the A/C to kick on. Finally.. a knit.. but at the cost per night it should be correct...the refrigerator doors are hinged on the wrong side in many of the kitchens.
The water park was tops in every respect and most staff were friendly and helpful. The facility was clean, well laid out and large enough that it never felt crowded.
Finally the restaurant was dismal. Food quality was mediocre at best (the chicken/broccoli was inedible), pricey for the quality and the service was 3rd rate. Again recognizing the challenges of large parties, to wait well over an hour for food is just poor service especially when considering the place was not all that busy. A pet peeve....plastic glassware is understandable and desired near the water park areas but absolutely not in the dining room and lodge bar.
Great idea not so great execution but with enormous potential. Five star pricing especially in the middle of absolutely no where should come with 5 star service.
a must for any family ski vacation
We jsut got back from 3 days at HLL & Greek Peak and could not have been happier. The room was great and accomodated 7 nicely in one large suite. The water park was like you would expect in a standalone water park -everything worked perfectly and more lifeguards and friendly/helpful/careing staff than I have ever seen. The spa was wonderful very well done and goood practicioners. I would recommend it to anyone and our family will be back again next year but will stay for longer next year.
Great getaway at a great price!.. Our family and friends enjoyed!..
My family of 5 and 3 other families stayed for 2 nights.. The accomodations where great!.. The Ski resort was spectacular!. All trails where open and staff was very helpful and pleasant. The jr ski program was the best we have encountered in upstate NY.. After our stay, our family returned 2 weeks later for a day trip of skiing.. We are considering buying a year membership for next year..
We spent 3 nights of the March break with our kids on the lodge, with a friend and his family. We were all very satisfied with the service; the rooms are very clean and very well equipped. The water park is very clean, quiet, and the slides are fun and good enough to 7-12 years old kids, beautiful outdoor pool and hot tub. Overall great service, lots of fun and excellent value.
Fun waterpark & beautiful accommodations
We are just back from a one night stay and we will definitely go back. The standard rooms are equipted with a full kitchen, dining area, gas fireplace, pull out sofa, and comfy bed. The decor was beautiful and nature themed. A short (indoor) walk away was the waterpark with wave pool, four slides, basketball pool, toddler area, and indoor/outdoor pool. The water was very warm and we swam outside even though there was snow all around us. The view was wonderful. Dinner at the restaraunt was tasty and also kid friendly. Would highly recommend if looking for a fun family get away.
Nice water park and hotel room but need some improvements
First of all i would like to say that i am so glad that we have resort in my home area. It is a fun short getaway with the kids in winter time to have somewhere like that near my house. I will definitely go back.
When we got there, we got the impression of it still under construction and everything is brand new. They are new hotel and i am sure the service and little things here and there will get improved in the future. What i would like to point out if the management gets to read this is the housekeeping, how they made the bed is like my kid would make the bed. The sheet is all wrinkle and not tuck in properly but the sheet is clean. I was going to take picture but my kids was interrupt me and i forgot. Also the restaurant service is poor, the food is poor. I would think the nice resort like that would make a better food or better service. We got ignored by the waitress for 15 mins without somebody gave us the menu, and they were not even busy, if it is busy i would understand completely, i am in the restaurant business.
On the good sides, the water in water park is nice and warm. The room is nice and well equipped. Totally will go back again in the near future, will tell family and friends to go there to support local business to grow.
Great Stay, Will Definitely Return
We stayed here from Sat March 13-Tues March 16, we have two kids 2 and 7. We will definitely return! The location is great, skiing right across the street at great rates, Corning is 10 minutes away and Ithaca only 25 mins. Both towns have great stores and shopping.
The resort itself was fantastic, much like Great Wolf Lodge, though in my opinion better as it offers more due to the Ski Resort. The rooms were fantastic we stayed in the A loft. The murphy bed concept is wonderful as you can enjoy the space during the day as a living room. The rooms were great, the kitchen fantastic, every utensil and dish you need is provided. We made some great meals after shopping at Tops in Cortland.
The kids loved the waterpark, it is fantastic and we were easily able to spend 2-3 hours there. The outdoor pool is fantastic and the hot tub incredible (indoor and outdoor). All the employees we met were very friendly, helpful and seemed to enjoy their work.
We are looking forward to returning and spreading the word amongst friends to let them know of this great hidden gem in upstate New York.
Lot's of fun, great rustic atmosphere, working out the kinks.
We spent the weekend here when there was a huge snowfall in Feb 2010. Skiing was great! The hotel staff seemed to have a hard time moving the snowaround to make enough parking spaces. It snowed the most on Thursday and by Sunday the parking lots were finally pretty clear. Also, it was annoying that the shuttlebus going back and forth to the slopes used the same entrance as where you load and unload luggage. This made getting your stuff in and out of the lodge a little stressful.
The room was great with the full kitchen and all appliances. The rustic charm and decor throuoghout the entire lodge was beautiful. We had a slope side view from our room window. The kids and adults loved the waterpark. We went there multiple times throughout our 3 day stay.
All the staff were attentive and curteous. The Lodge is very clean (brand new). We would like to see a skiing and stay package.
We used the lodge as a home base to go see a concert in Ithaca too!
